If I run over from Falmouth to spend a night or 2 in Chappaquiddick, is there any place to keep my 20' center console other than on a mooring in Edgartown?
I was just there a couple weeks ago, the only thing I saw were the moorings at Edgartown (where we stayed). The only approved anchorage area is outside the harbor at Edgartown and pretty exposed, and from what I can tell the only docks are private.
I think edgartown harbor is your only bet, Like JJC said, the anchorage is exposed to any N-NE winds. You might want to call the harbormaster and ask about possibly anchoring inside the Cape Pogue Gut. Its shallow but I think you'd be fine in your rig. If it was me I'd just use the edgartown moorings, I've done it a thousand times, never a problem. you'll have to walk on the ferry from chappy and then catch the launch from the edgartown side, unless your bringing a tender of some kind.Good luck, I'm headed there now to fish the OBMST, if Beryl lets us..
They closed anchoring in Katama Bay, so if you want to stay on your own hook, outside is the only option.
E-town harbormaster does have rental moorings. Not too difficult, especially with your draft. Bring a dinghy, and you can simply row to the beach, and pull it up on Chappy.
You can usually just radio them, or if you will be there over a weekend, might help to call ahead.
As far as the town rental moorings, when we were there 2 weeks ago people were coming in on Saturday asking about moorings (which were all full) and the harbormaster was telling them that the only way to reserve a town mooring now is online. Although later when someone cancelled they did give the mooring to someone arriving. There are a handful (10 at most) of blue moorings which are first-come, first-served, all the other town ones have to be reserved online from the Edgartown website, which is something new this year.
