There is a thread on this on the Noreast site. A boat also sank near Jessups on Saturday. One guy is still missing from that one.

I heard the whole thing on the radio, 25 stamas with twins. They don't know why. Here is the link, they shot some pictures as it went down.

Heard the CG warning about a capsized boat in the water off Moriches as a potential navigational hazard, didn't realize what happened.

Proline2,

great thread on noreast.com they seem to have alot of wrong information about the sunk boat off jessups neck in the peconic bay though. It was a 23' wellcraft with twin outboards. It never ran aground or hit paradise point, the people launched it in Greenport and it was taking on water due to a broken hose for the scupper that was right at the water line. Once loaded with 5 people in the stern it began to take on water. The captain apparently noticed his feet were getting wet and ran to the helm and put the hammers down. The theory is that the water rushed back so fast when he did this and it was such a low transom boat it dipped the stern, stalled the engines and then sank.
It is a real shame that someone had to lose there life over this, but if he couldn't swim why not wear a life jacket??
His body was recovered on sunday in majors cove on Shelter Island.
