prop for a 200 Yamaha hpdi - The Hull Truth

What prop would you recommend for this motor. I have a Grady White 228 Seafarer and the current prop will get me 5100rpm wot and about 35-39 miles per hour depending on the wind and current. The prop I have is a 13.75 / 17. I cruise at 4400 rpms and get 30mph. Could I do better

15.25" x 17 should be much better

thats a heavy boat for a 200, your cruise speed could be better with a 4 blade, you didnt say what exact prop is on your boat, that makes a big difference, ex. stainless or aluminium, 3 or 4 blade, who makes your prop? your max rpm on that engine is 5500, you should want to lower the cruise rpm to 4000 and still be doing close to 30, I might try a rev4 prop, start with a 15 pitch with a large diameter, I think Andy from SIM on this board does an exchange if you need more or less pitch

I have the exact same problem on my 21 Sailfish - 5100rpms and 38kts. My Yammy mechanic is telling me I should get 5500 rpm and 40kts...so I will try some props.

Question is: Who recomends the prop from the factory - the dealer or Sailfish (manufacturer)? Seems to me that if the boat manufacturer puts a specific prop on it is for a good reason and tested for economy etc, but if the dealer props it do they really know what's the best setup?

My problem is the 17" gives me 6100 rpms and the 19" gives me 5300 rpms... I want 5700 so I am going to a 17" 4 blade when I sell the 2 17" props I have.
