We are planning a long weekend to Montauk from the Hudson River. We would like to find a marina to dock for the night about half way out on Long Islands North Shore.
Can anyone recommend a marina in that area with nice slips, and a nice baron the water to eat and have some drinks. A place we can have a little fun before we go fishing.
In Port Jefferson, there is a restaurant called "Danfords" that has transient slips, a restaurant, and an Inn. The restaurant is nice but there are better places in town, all within walking distance. Good fishing in the area as well.
Thanks for the reply. Danfords looks pretty nice. We want to be able to sit out at the tiki bar, order buckets of beer and clams on the half shell - stuff like that
Danford in Port Jefferson is a nice choice, convenient walking to all stores and shops. Another good choice would be huntington harbor, West Shore Marina, its a longer walk into huntington but well worth the stop. Huntington is about 15 miles west of Port Jeff.
Danfords is a great place to dock, you can sit out on their deck and drink beers, and probably get clams on the half shell, but I agree with superfly, better places to eat within walking distance of the dock. You could always eat somewhere else and have a few beers on their dock.
I will be heading up your way this month (19th.) from Smithtown. Going up as far as cold spring, spending two nights at Plum Bush Inn with three of the sons and my cousin. This is our first Hudson trip and really looking forward to it. Do you know when you are heading up this way?
Sand Box, nie trip up there to Cold Spring. Be mindful of the transient slips there though, as they are set on the outside with no protection from river traffic wakes. Bring a full array of fenders, and tie a few to the dock so the boat clove hitched ones don't have a chance to ride up on the dock. You may want to check out the restaurant Torches, a 5-10 minute ride north, set on the opposite shore before the Newburgh-Beacon bridge. They have brand new docks, free slips, and busy nightlife, with anywhere to 1000 boats in the vicinity. Even if you don't night there, by all means stop in and grab lunch at one of the restaurants there, nice choices, as Cold Spring can get a bit monotonous after a few hrs. Have a great trip.
