Default 2017 South of the Vineyard Buddy-Boat Thread

Greetings Buddy Boaters!

I have seen so many tuna related threads on here recently that I guess it must be time to start the annual Buddy-Boat thread! Heck, the fish should be here in three months!

For those of you who are new here, this thread idea got started a few years back when a number of us were new to fishing south of the Vineyard. We were looking for a way to share intelligence on where the fish are, team up with other boaters who were heading out on the same day (for security and to cover more ground), and a way to find crew who are willing to go out with us or captains who are willing to take us. The thread did its job and lots of us have now become friends who meet up in the reel world.

The participants are largely people who fish in the waters south of Block Island, Matha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. Most of the discussion focuses on the waters out to the shipping lanes, but some of us make it all the way to the Canyons and contribute intell as well.

So if you are interested in working with a bunch of people on here who are looking for tuna, mahi, marlin, wahoo, and sharks feel free to contribute. We usually start things by posting up with a description of our boats, where we dock, and if we are willing to share intel, take others along, or serve as crew. After the first page or two, it just becomes a running conversation of trips we plan to take, calls for crew to join us, and fishing reports.

So let's get things started for 2017. My name is Bill. I have a 30 foot Grady with no name yet. I fish out of East Falmouth and I usually need crew. I've been doing this for four years now and have a life raft, PLB and submersible vhf radio in the ditch bag that also contains a lot of signal equipment and first aid supplies. I have outriggers and usually run a six rod spread with a combination of 50s, 30s and Penn 9/0s. I am loaded with spreader bars, chains, and diving lures and have added some Joe Shute style lures this year with the thought of going for marlin and wahoo. I hope to get things started around mid June off shore and I'm happy to share intel with those who return the favor. Last year I was fishing with about 30 other people and on some days there were as many of 10 of us out there at the same time sharing information. I hope to do a lot more of it this year.

I was wondering when you would start this up! Good job Bill!

My name is Rich and run a 26' Glacier Bay catamaran (Take Two) out of the Flying Bridge in Falmouth Harbor. I don't usually run my boat out there but grab rides with my friends Bill, Bruce and Ken. Occasionally, my wife and I will head out for the whale and dolphin show. Goals this year are to bring home some Mahi and land a tuna jigging on spinning gear!

Bill,

My name is Mike Lucas. I fish a newly (this winter) repowered Regulator 23 out of West Falmouth Harbor. To my great displeasure, my standing crew is getting older. They are off to college jobs and early orientations for school. So I don't know how much time I will get from them this summer. I have more gear than I need and less than I want. But certainly more than my boat can carry....

I am certainly willing to share intel any time....and rides when I can.

My name is Macol, I fish a 21ft WA Hydrasport (hoping to get a bigger boat soon) out of Martha's Vineyard. The farthest we take our boat is out to the dump. We mainly fish for tuna and mahi, but last year we saw a marlin so we may try for them as well!

My name is Dave, I fish out of the Vineyard too, keep my boat (Pursuit 2460) at a marina in VH. I haven't been south yet, beyond the Hooter/Bonito bar, but would love to buddy boat or crew. Don't have any tuna rods, but can contribute cash!

Jon - 23' HydraSport Center Console. Outriggers. Survival suits, PLB, VHF (2). Fished South of MV last year. Caught lots of Mahi and Tuna. 4 Shimano TLD 50s, Tuna spinning gear too. Always have a shark rod ready to go with bait. Hooked a big blue last summer too. Love to get a Mako, Wahoo, Marlin, Yellowfin, Bluefin, Mahi and more. I have the same issue with crew. Sometimes they just can't make it. I'm willing to take or be taken and share intel.

Thanks for doing this Bill

Bill,

If I remember correctly from last year, doesn't the group have a gathering before the season kicks off?

Thanks, Bill for starting this thread. It was nice to meet you at the Riptide seminar.
We just purchased a 27' Onslow Bay (lifejackets, epirb, ditch bag) and are planning on getting south. I've been as far south as to the West Atlantis Canyons trolling & spearfishing wahoo and yellowfin, but on charter.
Looking to do more this year. trolling, casting, spearing.
Out of RI.
Looking to share intel, etc. buddy boat.
Hit me up!

I'd fish with you any time, your boat or mine!

My names Peter, I have a 22' shamrock stalker center console with outriggers and a garmin gps from about 2005. I too suffer from too much gear and not enough boat. I have a ditch bag with floating vhf, plb, epirb, and some other needed items.

I've been known to push the old girl farther then I should and have been south of the dump a good clip, landed white marlin, mahi, and even yellowfin on her. Yet to land a bluefin though. Hopefully this is my last season hanging in the smaller size bracket as I am actively seeking an upgrade, but have very specific criteria that haven't been met yet.

I've had a good share of days on the water and love to jump in as a crew member for someone with a real sized boat, anyone in need, feel free to let me know when we hit the season finally!

My name is Kevin, I own a 27 Onslow Bay “Amanda Lynn” out of Falmouth Harbor or Sandwitch Marina depending on the hot bite. Last year I fished a lot on a friends 32’ whaler “Ramblin Rose”, but that boat is currently for sale. He purchased a 37’ grady white CC this year “sushi wagon XL”

Wow your early Bill! I guess you don't want to get scooped like you did last year though.

My name is Mitch and I'm an alcoho-----whoops wrong forum. I have a 21ft Sea Cat in Falmouth, but usually end up offshore fishing on friends boats. I prefer to to jig and pop but I actually really enjoy trolling too. I have several offshore conventional and spinning outfits and a pile of tackle. Can't wait for the season!
