Default Marine propeller service-fairhaven

Anybody have any input. The good, the bad, the ugly. Looking to have some prop work done. Hoping some one can give me some reviews. I called they seem very knowledgeable and less the half the price of New England Propeller.
Thanks

I would take them to ocean prop in Middletown, ri. Mike does a great job, he's very knowledgeable and uses a prop scan machine to get very tight tolerances. Not 100% sure but I think the fairhaven shop specializes in commercial boats and not necessarily sportfishing yachts.

Scandia was great to deal with, but I haven't used them in years. H & H has lost a lot of my respect in he last couple of years. They are very expensive, and busy.

I need to have one prop tweaked on the ocean to gain a couple hundred RPM after rebuild and will switch from H&H to acutech.

Marine propeller was the cheapest around by far. Really curious about quality of work.
Marine propeller 175 - 200
New England prop 516
Ocean prop 600
Scandia 375
All quotes for same work. Looking to add 1" of pitch.

First off, what are you looking to have done? Back in November I sent New England Propeller two 22" x 24" pitch Michigan DQX Nibral props and they did a full MRI prop scan, balancing, cleaning, and some minor touch up repairs which only ran me $350/pc with copies of the before and after prop scan reports supplied. That is pretty reasonable in my book. The owner of New England was more than happy to spend 30 min on the phone basically giving me a seminar on prop geometry, failures, etc.

Add Accutech to your list if you want another quote.

X3 for Mike at Ocean Props in Middletown , RI. His is a Prop Scan shop.

I was just there again a week ago.

I take my props to him from here on MV every winter ( long time now) for the free PropScan and free printout and always very helpful explanation of the results and Mike is happy to answer any questions . No service needed , no charge.
Most years no service is needed but he does great work at good price when results show the props are missing ISO 1 specs.. Very nice guy to talk to, & same for his wife Smidgie.

Wherever you take your props, I highly recommend a scan shop and arranging to have them scanned while you are there so you can discuss results, present prop performance and options you might be interested in. If you have the props worked on , you should get "before" and "after" scan printouts for your records. In my experience, the Hale MRI type scan shops have charged upfront for the initial scan, but that might be at the option of individual shops..

Much better experience for me than when I used to use H&H or NE Prop.

Ya I have to agree H & H was terrible this past year ever since Jim retired to NC. Took forever to get stuff back. It's just that they come by every week to pick up and deliver

I called H&H, spoke with someone who couldn't answer my questions. They told me Bob would call me back. Never heard back from them

Been using Marine propeller for 5yrs or so for both new and reworking pitch and they do take the time to talk to you. No issues, honest opinions, and will go out of the way time wise for commercial guys.

Thanks for all the input. I certainly don't mind paying for quality work, but why pay twice the price if you don't have to.

Not trying to bash H&H here, but I spent over $2,500 with them to redo both props and tweak a shaft they said was slightly out of alignment and was basically rushed in and out the door. I couldn't get one answer from anyone. just hurry in pay and go don't ask any questions we are busy.
After that, why should I bring the prop back and spend another few hundred? They have been around for a long time, and are a mainstay around here but, there are other options.

We've used N.E. Porp and have had nothing but great work done by them . H&H not the same, that's all I'll say. Did use Scandinavia once - good shop.
