Default Fishing out of little egg inlet?

Fellas-

I posted last July with some good responses but am seeking some more advice, as I just dropped a brand new engine in my 27ft sea ray after it dropped out on my in August right when the fishing heated up! I'll be steaming out of Little Egg Inlet this year and I'm looking for great spots to troll that aren't canyon distance! Any ideas on good troll-able areas out of LEI and what lures you use for any specific species? Would love to buddy boat up with someone familiar with the area! I appreciate any and all advice guys! Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I made a trip up to the ridge last year (about a 30mi trip from the inlet) and had a little luck with small blues.. nothing else. We were trolling raps and diamonds. Maybe I was doing something wrong?

I go out of great egg inlet. I've hit the ac reef at around 3pm and have caught some nice Brown sharks. Can't keep'em anymore but a lot of fun to catch. If u can catch some croakers use them. I've seen people trolling out there b4 also I've heard for blues and Spanish mackerel

Inshore trolling has been a bust for the past few years...BUT it can change anytime....usualy you can get Blues in May-early June,,then Bonito and the little Tunas, Spainish Mackrel,,etc July-Sept.
I fish out of Absecon in a 21 SeaCraft...Barnegat Ridge south is 31 mi for me .and I have only had to go that far north for a Bluefish tournament a few times for fish...from LE inlet some other good trolling areas are the Lobster Hole the San Jose wreck is in the hole there..also there is a finger closer to LE where the Astra wreck is...study some charts and look for those lumps 12/20 miles off....you are a bit bigger hull than me , if you are rigged right /safety/fuel/good hull..no reason you cant push to the 20 line..I been a trolling nut for years...it has been slow inshore of 30mi in that area.hope its better this summer. We need clean water/bait and warm, not hot and green still/flat..also I like the smaller trolling lures ,,# 1 clark spoons, small plastic skirts, dasy chains....the past few summers we did have some small chick Dolphin around the pots and reefs.....SEA U out there

Joe, great info! Everywhere I went last year was north of the inlet. This year I'd like to poke around south, too.. including the AC. Is there anything straight out from the inlet at all? Where are the pots? I remember growing up with my pop we'd troll the pots all of the time but we fished out of somers point, so I know we didn't come up this way. Thanks!

Had some success trolling by the Lobster Hole ~18 miles off of AC.
Squid chain, feathers, squid behind a bird etc. Little Tunny's were a blast

Was our first year with the boat, and plan to explore more this year. Hope to get a good chart & store some waypoints.

a lot of those pots are gone, the ones you fished out of SP most likely were from a guy I knew from SIC , he is in CM now...and since Buddy passed years ago out of AC not many left inshore from SIC to AC. there a string or 2 on the outside of AC reef. and some around a few inshore wrecks..I don't know the Comerical regs..these pots were Lobster / Seabass. pots . As you know going So. out of LE 8 - 12 mi will put you off AC and the spots I listed in the other post above....inshore trolling has been a passion of mine , I wrote and did talks on the subject to clubs & publications ....It has dropped off in our area ..lots of factors Man made and mother nature ...but that's another story...I give you my email in case you want talk fishing or buddy up out there [email protected]

there were some pots by the AC reef, GSS reef, & out by the lobster hole this past season.
Quite a few around the 3mi line out of LEI
None were productive for us so far

I hear ya, both.. I've been fishing since I had baby teeth in jersey and still very much consider myself a rookie- especially since moving the boat up to tuckerton from SoJ. I'm all for the sport, so I don't care what I'm reeling up as long as that line is tight! I put my boat in last year the first week of April but was considering moving that up a month to the first week in march. Anything going on this way that might be advantageous to putting her in come march? Not to mention that I'm going stir crazy...

If it's free, it's for me! So any input on what I can get into if I launch early? I would probably explore a bilge heater.. still not 100% on that yet. If the winter keeps up like it has, I don't think I'll have a problem. 60 degrees tomorrow!

be careful just inside of little egg inlet. The rise of Tucker's Island and moving shoals can be hazardous. Make sure you stay in the channels especially at low tide.

You have to be careful at high tide too in a lot of areas. I prefer the northern pass. Much easier.
