Default Fall striper run Sandy Hook area

Has anybody been doing really well on stripers this year? It seems that all the trips that I have taken and all the people that I've spoken with, nobody has been doing all that well. People are mainly catching 2-3 fish and thats it. Was out most of the day Sat. and only had 2 fish, and we caught them under a small group of birds on jigs.. Had fresh clams and eels and went to 4 different spots with no luck. Is the season over before it strarted? Did the rain and storms chase them away? Water temp was 50 degrees, and clean so I don't know where they are. Anybody else having similar bad luck?

We have not fished the raritan this fall yet.

However we have fished the East river with similar results as yourself.
1-3 fish per trip. Saturday we only got one keeper striper around 12-15 lbs drifting with eels.

It has been slow for us but then again I have heard some reports of 20 fish per trip up to 30 pounds in the east river.

Try Noreast.com for more reports in the New York Bight.

Fished just outside the hook on sunday, it was a slow pick but managed 20-25 fish in 6 hours on clams. All small though, the biggest was 31", most were slots or shorter.

Not sure about the Sandyhook area, but the east river is coming alive with bigger fish. I had fish over 36"(that's what my tape goes to) by the Hellsgate and the UN.

I had a great day on Saturday boating 30+ bass. All were taken on umbrella rigs in 40 - 50 ft south of the hook

Were you fishing Hell Gate on Saturday?

If so we must have seen you. We were there and by the U.N. Building.

Our Boat name is "No Regrets" - 25ft Parker

I fished Friday and Monday. Sat and Sun has become kids soccer days...lol.

My buddy fished a PB out of Atlantic Highlands and did ok. He had fish to 40" on eels. The boat had limited out. He has no idea where the boat fished tho, says he fell asleep on the way out. How does one fall asleep on a twenty min ride out? eye

Plenty of guys have been fishing clams in the surf out on Sandy Hook and producing (over the last week or so). The rough weather we had produced some bass off the beach but that may have died off by now.

Will try again on Sun. Fished from Barnegat to keyport yesterday with my brother (Hlights2) during his annual migration north for winter storage and only produced 1 short bass, and a million blues. We were trolling stretch 25's (I won't use umbrella rigs). Didn't have a chance to fish the rip, with the north west blow all day the rip was pretty messy. Still have eels left will give them a go on Sun. Anyone out there give me a shout on 72 "Just Another Toy" 25' Parker.

Friday looks great for fishing. Might be my last day on the water as my dock master wants me out so he can pull the piling for the winter. I had to point out to him that it was 68degrees today and going up for the weekend. "I just might make you wait to pull up the piling, Joe"

Ran outside the Hook today (11/6), beautiful day, except for the same problem, NO BASS !!
Every one on the radio was complaining of the same thing, bulefish all over but no bass..

Put about 50 miles on the boat to catch 5 blue fish and waste 18 eels..

Oh Well, try again for fri., at least I'm still in the water and not at work..

Went out Sat. Did the Reach Channel and some areas close to home. No one was pulling in fish. It was a great day on the water. Gas is too expensive for me to run to the Hook for the same results. Hope it gets better soon. Might have to haul out in two weeks.

Just spoke to a buddy who is out in Raritan bay right now. He's nuts its gusting up to 35kts right now. They are getting fish though pretty steadily. Unfortunatley they are of the toothy variety. They boated two in the 5 minutes that i talked to them. Still the striped ones are few and far between. Gonna be a late run this year. Maybe next week. There is still alot of bait in the rivers. Keep the faith....
