Default manasquan inlet NJ

Thinking about bringing my boat down to seaside heights NJ area for a weeks vacation. I've brought a boat home (LI sound) from Brick one time so I'm familiar with the route. What concerns should I have regarding trying to enter manasquan inlet?? What tide and wind speed combo creates the worst waves and what point should I not try to run in with a wellcraft 290 coastal? Never had to deal with large following seas into an inlet before. I've read once I commit I can't bail and to ride the back of a wave in, never climbing over it and allowing myself to get swamped. Also...any good recomendations while down there would be appreciated. Good places to beach up, fish, dock and dine..etc..etc.

You will have no problem with Manasquan Inlet if the seas are reasonable. The only time it jacks up is on a big swell with a strong outgoing tide, and then only for 50 feet or so at the mouth.

Plenty of depth throughout, its a good inlet

Waters edge across the bay from seaside is a boaters hangout bar/restaurant. Watch out for the googans anchoring

One other thing - be careful at the train bridge in the manasquan river. Give the downcurrent boats the right of way, and make yourself seen prior to passing through

There is a spot called "F-cove".....

Once you come into the inlet, through the train bridge, and through the Point Pleasant Canal, you can bear left instead of going up the Metedeconk River, and right before you hit the Mantaloking Bridge, F-cove is on your right. Trim up when you enter the mouth...

You can beach the boat there... lots of big cruisers do all the time and raft up together.

Regarding dock and dine, neat place in Brielle for drinks. Brielle is very close to the Manasquan Inlet and the railroad bridge referenced above. Call ahead for slip though.

I stopped there for lunch last year after Martell's took it over. We were immediately picked up and brought to the dock. Leaving took about 30 min just to get on the party barge . They really need another "tender" to run people to their boats.

Seacrets in OC,MD is awesome. Two tenders make a swift go of it.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. How realistic is it to head down to AC?? I see that there is a Trump Marina and the rate, from what I can find online is about $4 a ft. Should the run down to AC best be done on the outside as the channels down are tight and shoal? or is it straight forward with good markings? A quick look at some mapping software it only seems to be in the 40-50 mile range from Seaside area.

It is a state marina (Farley State Marina), call ahead for a slip as they can book up http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandf...s/marinas.html

I would run outside if conditions permit, I just find it easier and faster. That being said, the inside route is part of the intercoastal and should be well marked. We spend a weekend every year at Farley and always run outside

Be sure to stay within the channels on the inside of Barnegat Inlet, there are some very shallow spots
