Hey guys, I've been a member here for a while, just dont check in often. I know codman and he pointed me towards this thread because he knew I'd be very interested.

I have a 23' CC and like to cruise Jeffries and stelwagon bottom fishing and tuna wishing.

If the forecast was right, I would definetly like to join the group and make the run to fipps. safety in numbers!

It uses raster charts - get them from Noaa use this link - http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/m...x.htm#software
Download zip file from region 02 (northeast) - then unzip into selected directory, now you have all the Noaa charts for the northeast
Then open chart 13009 for the entire GOM - Have fun
Oh yeah, I have a 25' WA, if enough boats go, I'm in!
wow - very cool program. I had always used "OPENCpn" but this is better. Is it easy to hook up to a GPS? I am tempted to bring a laptop out and use this program to overlay my position....

Ran there once a couple years ago. Mainly looking for the next tuna hotspot. Found a few, dropped a few jigs and got a little off the bottom. Nothing awesome. I'd like to try it again. About 90-120 minutes out of Plymouth if I remember right.

Anyone been out to Fipps or Cashes lately ? I'm thinking of hitting both of them from Boston sometime over the next few weeks. Never fished either spot what can I expect this time of year ?

I was out earlier in the year. I run a 30 Pursuit and made the trip in a little over 2 hours. We picked up a few sharks and a lot of bottom fish. Good size haddock and cod. 1 nice halibut.

Keep a very close eye on the weather. I went out in 0 wind and wave action. But it is a long way if there is any wind or sea.

Sunset sat night a few miles from cashes. Beautiful night. Long ride.
There is a lot of life out there, wish I had planned it so we had more time out there. Stopped a handful of times on the way out, whales, dolphins, a sunfish. Next trip we will plan on spending two nights at cashes

Sounds like a great trip. How was the fishing? I fished Platts on Saturday, beautiful weather and good fishing once we finally found them. Good numbers of cod and pollock 10-18 lbs.

Tons of pollack, caught a bunch of large cusks too, no cod. I screwed up in planning the trip. We took a long time getting there, saw lots of surface action along the way that we stopped at to see if charlie was hanging around. Ended up getting there after dark. Watched ballons on anchor from about an hour before sunrise till about 8am, then moved around for a bit jigging for a couple hours on sunday, before we decided we needed to start heading back. Really needed a full day out there.
No regrets, I would have been happy with the trip if I hadn't put a single line in the water.
