Random Quote: Boat Fever is an incurable disease which can only be held in temporary remission by increased dossages of feet.
If I dead in the water and drifting in 8-10 foot seas I would have popped the EPIRB long ago. I hope it works out, but that is long odds at this point.
I sure hope for the best for those men. But with power that boat can handle the weather .... maybe they are riding out the weather ........???? don't look good though.
Is it me or does that east/West boundary for the search pattern seem awfully narrow? A boat can travel a long ways if it were disabled Sat or Sun, esp with the weather we have been having.
Having the dragging gear get caught on the bottom and the boat capsizing would be more likely to happen.
Being forced to go out by regulation windows and paying for regulation changes is more like the blame. He very well may have been out trying to pay for a upcoming life raft inspection.

Regulations didn't cause this! Get off your damn soap box. This is an accident that could happen anytime anywhere regardless of regulations. Maybe if the regulations forced them to have a functioning EPIRB this might be a different story.

There are plenty of days I am out there for the sole reason of coming up with money to pay for things I wouldn't think of having if I wasn't forced too. WTF am I out here for is the exact thing that goes threw my mind. I wouldn't be there if some regulation wasn't making me.
I would assume others are out there doing the same thing. I'm couldn't possibly be the only idiot trying to keep up with regulations. What do up think it cost to inspect one of those life rafts? Why do they force you to inspect it so often? A lot of the stuff is not useable in a emergency and you are forced to have it and pay for it. Where does that money come from? You go out when you shouldn't.

do the very regulations that everyone is criticizing obligate the boat to have an EPIRB? was there an EPIRB deployed?
Yes on 1st, don't know on the 2nd. If deployed (if had on board), it did not work. The VMS system didn't ping location any longer either which indicates boat lost electrical or other malfuction to equipment.

you STUPID or something? How about a new reg. You can't fish unless you have a working epirb and raft. Plus lets make you have a beeper that tracks your every movement on the water.
The sea to a lesser extent than the air will take the clueless, neglectful, unprepared, greedy and boldly stupid in short order. This just helps the gene pool anyway.
