Default Places to Sanbar on Buzzard's Bay

We've gone over to Bassetts Island, thrown out the anchors and had a great time more than once but since we're fairly new to Buzzard's Bay waters (We're typically in Narragansett Bay), are there any other places on Buzzard's Bay where boaters can pull up to an island or beach and enjoy a nice afternoon?

Weepicket Island (sp), Hadley's Harbor, Cutty Hunk. On a good day travel to MV to Lake Tashmoo or Tarpaulin Cove on Naushon Isl.

Black Beach in Sippewissett (Be careful of Barne Rock marked with a makeshift pole and the rock reef "Gifford's Ledge" to the left as heading in towards the beach)

Kettle Cove on Naushon

The beach on the Nashuwena side of Quick's Hole

All those plus Nonquitt, adjacent to Padanaram Harbor. You may see a few of us THT'rs there as well....

These are some great spots! Do you know of any additional spots more towards the canal?

Onset . . . You have to pull around to the backside of the beach to anchor. Good Beach and you can walk into town (Mark Anthony's Pizza).

eastporter. Is that Shell Point? So you can just anchor near the backside of Shell Point in Sunset Cove? That sounds great. I didn't know that.

Great Picture of Onset. Got to see the fireworks on the 4th last summer in Onset (which were pretty good IMO).
Couldn't believe the boat traffic leaving that night after the fireworks.

CSK - Pretty sure I saw your boat on a mooring last July.

As for sandbars in BB the only one I could add that hasn't been mentioned is West Beach at Robinsons Hole. Very sandy bottom but you have to watch the tide because the bottom doesn't have a steady slope from the beach. Kind of goes up and down. If your OB powered you can get right in close but if your IB powered it would be best to anchor off a bit.

What a picture!!

We went Tarpaulin's late last summer in the old V 20.
What a beautiful place. The water is so clear there.
We should spend a night there on the Bertram sometime next summer.
Here is a picture from Tarpaulin's a few years back.

Underwater picture from West Beach......

There is a small beach on the back side of the Stoney point dike as well. Widows cove is a good spot if you don't mind the canal wakes rocking you on anchor

Looks like it'll be done very soon. Also the old kenny's saltwater taffy is gonna be a new restaurant right on the beach.

eastporter: I can't wait for those two places to open. I think we'll be in Onset this weekend at some point depending upon weather.

Boat Beach - Mouth of Westport River
Allen's Pond Entrance - Directly East of Gooseberry Island. Beatiful stretch of secluded beach with a tidal flow in back of the beach. Bring a tube and ride the pond entrance with the tide.

Hi,
Theses places sound good to sanbar. I'm looking in more detail arround Pocasset places (specially close to pocasset river). For instance, I'm wondering if you could place the anchor at some point along Wings Neck peninsula, like Wings Cove and then go ashore and visit it marshes, lay on the beach (it seem to have a little one), etc... Or maybe all the sandy areas arround are private, I don't know.
Another point that grabbed my curiosity is Tobey Island; I've heard it is private, but even the the small island in the south that doens't have houses arround?
As you see, I'm just looking for a small piece of sand (no need to have facilities) and do not disturb any neightbour. Thanks

Had both my Mako 23IB and the Mako 236 there a couple weeks ago. Pair of classics!
