DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY RAMPS IN THE STAMFORD AREA THAT ARE NOT RESIDENT ONLY. THE CLOSEST I FOUND WAS MAMARONECK NY AND THEY CHARGED ME $50 IN AUGUST....THANKS EDDIE
Saugatuck RIver in Westport.....I-95 exit 17.... perhaps 10 minutes by car from Stamford. A State ramp right under the I-95 Overpass......I think it is free.
Norwalk has a super nice facility...I think, again, I think, it's $15/use or $200/season...I may be off base though, I haven't been there in 4-5 years.
The ramp in East Norwalk. It is in Veterans Park (I think thats the name) . Major bennefit is that it is also across the street from Fishermans World. If you want info on the ramp, I would call the folks at Fishermans World. The one in Westport would be a bear to find if you were not local to the area. Additionaly, I can't imagine there is much water at that ramp at low tide.
The Westport ramp is borderline useless. For one it is a shallow-water ramp, second, there isn't a dock and three, you've got about a good 1.5 miles down the ultra-shallow Saugatuck before you're in the Sound.
Norwalk Marina seems like a great spot, wintering my boat there now, great people great fishin area. If its $200 for the season you should be able to make that work for you if you are putting enough days in on the water. In greenwich on grass island there is another ramp that I know my friends have used, not sure about price though. Good luck!!
Hello,
If you are inclined to look, under the I-95 bridges that span the waterways in Ct. there are almost always free state boat ramps. (They own the land under the bridges) The ramp in Norwalk is a good one with lots of dock space and parking, but it can be very busy on weekends, and they have a seasonal pass or a daily, (they used to have a daily) The Westport ramp has some security problems at night so be careful if you use it then. Westport is a bit shallow at low tide, you can cross by staying close to the bridge abutments until you reach the channel, which is on the other side of the river. At low tide you must stay in the well marked channel all the way out to the river entrance, at high you can cut across with no trouble, the range there is about 6 to 7 feet.
