Default Repower Dealer in Cape Cod, S. Mass, RI. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I am looking to repower my Glacier Bay probably next fall since I have vintage 1989 Merc 150's on it. I am looking for recomendations for either Honda or Yamaha dealers on Cape Cod, Southeastern Mass or even Rhode Island if necessary. I may also consider Suzuki's but I am a little leary of their 150's. I am not looking for the best price but a dealer that treated you well and charged a fair price. I would also be interested in any bad/ugly dealers that I can avoid. This is just for a repower with 4-strokes so please keep that in mind.

Atlantic boats will probably give you the best price around on Suzuki's but you will have to watch there install and make sure what you agree to in closing is what you actually get. Service is another issue, I have bought my boat motor and trailer from them, the boat = no problem other than the for sale sign covering a scratch in the gel coat 8" long the motor well only 15 hours good so far, the trailer undersized for my boat the boat was in there yard and when asked if they had a trailer for it I was sold a 7000# GVW trailer with 5400# carrying capacity needless to say my boat with fuel and gear exceeds this by far so I am not a happy camper about it

I have seen the posts about Atlantic and was planning on avoiding them. As I said, price is not the #1 issue. I am looking for an honest dealer who will give me a very good to excellent install and service.

For Yamaha, I can highly recommend Bayside Marine in Duxbury, MA. Their service is top-notch.

Steve, it looks like they have Hondas too. Perfect for me. I'll check 'em out. What type of work have they done for you?

Anything I need. They just did a complete breakdown/cleaning of my carbs on my Yamaha and took care of a bunch of little stuff for me. Things like replacing bilge pump hoses and grommets, getting a stuck steering wheel off so I can replace the helm, etc. . I pass about 4 Yamaha dealers on my way off Cape to bring it up to them in Duxbury, if that tells you anything.

Viking Marine in Portsmouth RI. He carries Yamaha. The owner is Scott and he is one of the nicest guys I have met in the Marine industry...I have bought two boats and two motors from him and could not be happier with his service. Give him a call (401) 682-2339

Steve and NewMoon, thanks for the recommendations! I want to get my shopping list together before I actually need it! Anyone else want to weigh in?

I am hearing of problems finding a QUALIFIED Suzuki service dealer in RI.....coming from guys I know with outboards.

No problem buying one, LOL, but they are having trouble finding someone qualified to work on them.

I second Steve's opinion of Bayside. Never had them do extensive work but the service is excellent. Very responsive and practical.

You will be very pleased with them. I've used them many times and will continue to do so.

If you are interested in Falmouth you should repower with the Boat Guy. I have repowered with him on three different boats and he has done great work each time. He is very detail oriented and is a quality guy.

Also I really love my Hondas. They are very dependable!!!

Andy (The Boat Guy) is actually the first guy I talked to. I was impressed with him but before I drop $30K with anyone, I want to get a few competitive quotes.

I am also trying to find a slip or mooring for next year in Falmouth. I had a good lead but it fell through. Since you are Falmouth, any suggestions. IM or e-mail me if you do!

I know they didn't make your list, but I purchase a 2003 225hp Evinrude Ficht for my 23' SeaCraft from Ship Shops in South Yarmouth on Bass River.

Marty has been great to me and the service guys are always there to help no matter how busy they may be in season or off. The Evinrude has performed beautifully and I have 400 hours on it now. It is clean, quiet and fuel efficient.

And, although money isn't a primary concern, the 'Rudes will save you some substantial dough $$$.

Just a thought... Hooper

Hooper, thanks for the post. I really want 4-strokes. I am done with the smoke, oil, and noise of the 2-strokes. I know the new ones are better than the oldies I have but that is my preference.

Bosun's Marine in Mashpee - I've been dealing with them on and off for 15 years - class act and they understand service which is a rare statement on the Cape.

They also bought Half Tide Marina in Mashpee a few years back and you might be able to cut a deal...

Bosuns sell Yamaha's, right? My Cobia I sold last year was originally purchased from Bosun's so I do know about them.

Cape Cod Guy-
(Andy) The Boat Guy is the way to go. I hear nothing but great things from his customers. I am in falmouth and all my friends got repowed by him with hondas. im not sure if he does Yammies. But i would not go with anything but yammies or hondas. Not that im talking down about the zukies, they are excellent as well.

Thanks for all the posts, guys. Andy is definitely moving to the top of the list. He told me he does Yami's now but seem to have a preference for the Hondas. It still looks like I will be repowering in a year. In the meantime, I am looking for a slip/mooring for July and August in the Falmouth area. I would perfer south side but am open to suggestions. If any fellow Cape Codders have leads for me, please PM or e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks.
