Random Quote: I thought I was hooked on fishing then I got strung out!
I'm debating how long to keep the boat in the water. I do not have a trailer, and this is my first season at this. What do other Long Island / Montauk guys do?
My options are:
- pull it Oct 31 (it's currently in Sag Harbor);
- arrange for another few weeks at a Sag marina;
- put it out at Montauk for the month of Nov, Gone Fishing or elsewhere;
My concerns are that there might not be much worth going for much west of Gardiner's Island, so it just won't be worthwhile to keep it in Sag much longer. So I either put it nearer fish (Montauk) for Nov, or just call it a season and surfcast for a few more weekends.
Here in Rhode Island, I was Bass and Tataug fishing till December 12th last year. Really, it ALL depends on how the weather holds up, when you trailer. Last year was nice thru Dec. This year may turn out different, based on the last 2 crappy weeks.

I normally wait until mid December.* I remember last thanksgiving day a massive run of bass on the beach at watch hill.** However, two years ago I had to turn the boat into an icebreaker to get the ramp.* Didn't do any damage but it sounded so bad I thought I was gonna cry.
I am in RI and IMO the Fall run is just now shaping up. I venture to say we have another 2 maybe 3 weeks left of productive fishing. Considering your in NJ I would add another week or two. The problem with this time of season is the weather can be tough. When the nights start to dip below 32 degrees consistantly it's time to pull.
Yeh, last year, the 32 degree nights held out till Dec, we got lucky!!
I fear they will come earlier this year, though. Gotta get my freezer full of Tog soon, LOL.
Went out Tuesday and did very well (Tataug), considering no available reports and no idea what was going to happen, LOL. Tuesday was the first decent break in the weather and turned out beautiful
A few more of those days, please?

Man, it was sloppy where I was!!! 4 to 6 footers with slop mixed in, with pea soup fog. Through all that crap, we limited out in 3 hours and were done by 10:30, anchor pulled.

Yeh, I had to tow someone in that day after we got done fishing, too. Easy, though compared to a tow I had to do last year.
Last year I had to do a 27-mile tow from the Gully in to Point Judith thru a Northeast gale with thunder, lightning, and pouring rain all the way in. Took 3 1/2 hours to get in that time, and I was soaked. Wished I had the hardtop that day!!
Shoulda named my boat Sea Tow, it's already yellow, haha!
(Or "C-Toe"? hehe)

OK - so now that you guys have successfully hijacked my thread into a "who's going fishing this weekend" thread, well, who's going out, and where?
I will try and go out Sat, though weather looks like it might still be rough/windy from Fri.
Sun looks much better, and I will probably do some combo of Gardiner's, Montauk and Gut, for bass-blues.
