What are you thinking. Sharking ? I am hoping to get my limit on BFT and hopefully some yellows to make it worth it.

I just got the new temps also....now thinking about going chunking VERY early AM tomorrow morning or even heading out to B.I. tonite and grabbing a mooring, then heading from there in the wee hours. Looks good between the base of the Horns and the Dump, maybe start there and work toward the Dump trolling at some point.

I dunno what the hell I'm doing yet now, LOL......was thinking of going night bass at the North Rip.......geez, what to do??????

Sorry for the late reply. We left friday afternoon as planned arrived 12 miles east ( south) of the dunp where we found a good temp break and blue fin (small) breaking the surface, figured this should do. Set up for a troll and picked up a sbft right away. threw him back to grow up and settled in for the chunk overnight. 67.9 degrees in a few hours we had so many sharks we switched to steel leaders and caught three blue dogs one so big it scared my brother. It had to have been 12 feet long as it was longer than my transom and when it swung its head around it's nose cleared the height of the transom. A little JAWS flashback there. However after a while the sharks left 65 degree water moved in and that was it nothing else. in the morning headed towards the tails and found a awesome temp break and islands of weeds fished that for 4 Mahi with 2 of them being very good sized and a large bft on the troll to finish it off. So no yellow (bummer) but a great day and night with decent conditions overnight and only minor slop on the way back in.

Sorry for the late responce.
Hoping if I can get the coin together for one more. However I burned 180 gallons of fuel this trip so ouch with diesel being 2.00 a gallon.

rp,

I left Pt. Judith at 4AM and headed straight out south of the Horns to the temp break from Oceantemp. Found it right away and started trolling. Picked up 2 33"-35" Bluefin (threw the 2nd back, of course), and 8 False Albacores (kept all for shark bait/chum). Once we had the Falsies, we set up for Shark around 9:30. Hooked one almost right away at 100 feet, but it broke off after 15 minutes. Around noon, we hooked a Mako at the stern (surface bait) on a False Albacore Fillet, and after 1/2 hour had him stuck and tail-roped, and were dragging him around. Turned out a nice ealry start, nice early "end"

I heard you on the radio when you were out at Fishtails, and tried responding, but you apparently didn't hear me. Others were responding but your responses were such that you didn't hear anyone and were just letting others know what was going on out there. I tried, LOL.

Pic of the Mako (125#, 6 1/2 feet):

Wow nice shark. We had blues only, I am sorry I missed you. I need to look at my antenna situation. I seem to have a problem when I am under way to not here any one. It is either the squelch, antenna or speaker. I have just an entry level radio and antenna. I should probably look at upgrading that over the winter with further and further trips in my future. Also yes when ever I hook up I try to share the news in the event that someone wants to give it a try there. I know a few weeks back when I got the Wahoo I let some people in on it and they all seemed to do well. And hey I can only keep one so is not like your going to ruin my limit.
Well I am most likely done for the year. Finances putting a hit on any further trips. Oh well I will save for next year and start a little later so I can focus on the tunas.

Yeh I tried to reply but you didn't hear me. I think it may be my last offshore trip as well, due to the water temps.

I'm ready for fall Bass and Tataug now! Uses less fuel and fills the freezer!

yep that is it for me as well. Last trip will be stripers and then an oil change. Hey I got to heat the oil anyway. Might as well be fishing while I am doing it.
