The Nantucket (LV112) is getting moved today. Some are taking this very seriously. I'm in the Merrimack, 12 miles upriver, but I'm still pulling my 27' because I don't know the shape of everyone else's moorings or docks.
Threw a few extra lines on today, drag the trailer up tomorrow afternoon if it looks nasty. I'm in the Porter River Danvers, all the way up to Popes. Not too scared of this one.
pulled mine out of Orient Point, Long Island last night, I feel much better knowing it's on land. I needed to give a good mid season cleaning so this will make it much easier.
Well, after all the should I stay or should I go...I hauled out at the request of my marina, and I'm on the hard. I actually feel better about it now...you just don't know with this one...too many zig-zags, and all it takes is one zig to the West it hits real hard.
Good luck to everyone. Be smart and be safe.
Good news is the rest of the weekend looks nice and more good surf!
Pulled mine and took the opportunity to pressure wash the hull. I'll go back in on Sunday. On Saturday I might touch up the bottom paint. Might as well use the situation to my advantage.
I hung the 14 footer on the mooring. I have a pretty good spot with some natural protection.
The latest info looks like the storm weakened and started to disorganize and began veering off to the east. All I have to do is get prepared and all risks vanish. Oh well. Better than the alternative.
Went for a ride to charge the battery. Covered all openings, folded up and secured the bimini top and lowered the VHF antenna. She's staying at the dock in a cove inside the inner harbor. If I were to haul her and bring her home, it would be more likely the boat would be damaged from the surrounding trees.
Good luck to all you guys down there.
The track of this thing seems to be wavering back and forth, without a lot of certainty. Earlier in the week it looked like the boat should come out, yesterday it wasn't looking too bad, and now it seems to be coming back this way again.
I guess, this afternoon we'll have to decide for sure what to do. I'm leaning towards hauling out, now that Earl is moving more to the east.

This is looking more and more like a push to the east will make the Cape windy with some rain, but not what they had feared. Tides look to be low at the "peak" so the rise shouldn't be too bad. Boats out, furniture is put away in the garage, A/C's out of the windows, generator ready. It is what it is at this point. Done all I can do.
I grabbed 15 gallons of fuel this AM just in case. If I don't need it for the generator, I'll just dump it in the boat or truck. Better to be prepared vs. caught by surprise!
I went to the Sesuit town slips (east side) yesterday just to look with my Son. Amazing how few boats are out. I swear some of these boats are tied up with shrinkwrap line vs. real docklines. That's why I hauled mine. It's almost like they WANT them to break away.
I pulled it out last night. I was pretty sure nothing big was coming my way but I figured WTH. The worst thing about pulling out is that I save $50 filling up the tank at the gas station. The worst thing about leaving it in would be finding it 1/2 a mile down the cove under a pile of blowboats.
I was talking to one of my neighbors and he said "Naaa, I will see how it is tomorrow and then decide." That right there made me thing I did the right thing. Nothing could be more fun then trying to pull a boat out at a busy ramp with 50 other idiots and a hurricane bearing down on you.
Scupman, Andrew and Gravy, good points all. I have a neighbor who is coming down tonight to move his 30 footer from his dock to his mooring. Imagine trying to move the boat in the middle of the blow?
And thanks for reminding me to fill her up at a gas station before it goes back in.
Total bust. I hate spending money for nothing, but I'm still glad it was a bust.
for sure, i wonder how much it cost our state to have our brain trust in charge declare a state of emergency almost 2 days before the storm was to reach us.
