Default Nmfs tuna permit- online app has glitch???

I have been trying to apply for a rec tuna permit for over a week now, after entering my info, there is a spam-proof question that basically says: My name is Dan Worthington and my vessels name is (some random boat name)- is this correct? I answer none of this info is correct ..and it diverts me back to the main screen.

Anyone else have similar experience? Thanks

Yes, Just continue as though the info is correct and you will have a chance to make corrections as you go. Kinda weird but it worked for me. I had the same experience and called them.

Have you applied for a HMS permit in the past? Either you are already registered under different name and permit # or they did just change rec. take on tuna on 7/18. Check NMFS permit info page for current updates.

Call them. they will give you the option to print the permit yourself. you could be fishing today. If they send it to you, they will send the exact thing as if you printed it.(they just print it as you would) it will take a week + to get it (no matter what they say) been there.
Once paid, I would go fishing whether I had the hard paper in my hand or not. But that's just me, I figure If they have my money, I'm permitted.Regardless of if the girl at nmfs permits sent it late or not.

With all the recent changes to the regs, I'm confused as to what a rec permit actually entitles you to do. Clarification?

Yeah I also had to call...kept saying my vessel already has an active permit...not according to last years permit though, which was expired. Woman I talked to said I'm not the first to call with this same problem this year.

Don't know if this is your problem, but if you or your vessel has EVER had an hms permit before, you can run into a screen very similar to what you describe.

I ran into it both ways. First, my old parker came up. Then the previous owner of my new boat came up. I was finally able to change it so I could register the new boat permit in my name.

Now I just have to remember not to make it think I'm getting the permit for the boat I don't have any more. It still comes up as a choice if I don't specifically put in last years permit number.

Permit was for Bfins when first instituted and we could keep 5 per boat.
Now it is for sharks, tuna, swordfish and your saltwater license in New Jersey!

I applied for renewal permit online, on Saturday July24, before going fishing, but changed from commercial to recreational, had no problems whatsoever, and printed out permit and took it with me fishing. Only problem was couldnt find Mackerel for bait...

I called in today for the permit- he managed to change my info around and made everything correct however my credit card supposedly didnt go through (definetly not declined I only use it for phone purchases like these) I guess they dont want me to catch a tuna. I will try online again tonight now that my info is correct.

success...... now that my info was corrected, I was able to process my own app- I bet the guy on the phone didnt put my correct name down that was on the card (since I use "JR" at the end). At least I can now legally fish...wish me luck.
