GB32 or Downeast boat for Narragansett - The Hull Truth

I am planning to move from San Diego to Narragansett, RI in near future and trying to decide if it would be smarter to move my very nice '91 Grand Banks 32 to RI or sell it here or try to find a good deal on a 30-35' Young Brothers, Duffy or other good quality Downeast boat for recreational use.

30 years boating experience on West Coast, none on East Coast.

I would think that there would be a lot of logistics and expense involved in moving the trawler but it's certainly doable. I'd get some estimates before I made a decision.

There are many DE's available on the East coast. It does take time and patience to find the one you want though since you're going to see everything from rough commercial jobs to high end yacht finishes.

If you can sell your GB out there, I think that would be a good move, as the expense to ship it to RI will be somewhat prohibitive.. Plus, as mentioned above, there are A LOT of boats for sale right now, and good deals to be had for a serious buyer. Welcome to the area! let me know if you need any local info!

Pt Jude, thanks, I have concluded that after this weekend of good advice. We have been enjoyed coming back to Pt Jude area for 40 years (but without a boat) and had a place in Eastward Look. We recently bought a retirement home on Harbour Island. I would definitely like to talk to someone with local knowledge. As I said, I have 30+ years of experience in the Pacific but realize that may not do me too much good in the Atlantic. If you would send me your contact info, I would like to give you a call.

Good luck with the sale and move. I always it is easier to move the money then the boat. Have you gotten a price? Your GB would fit in real nice on the east coast.

I'm not ready to pull the trigger yet, and not sure of the price, but I think the GB32 will sell easily, even in this market. I'm obviously prejudiced but it is the nicest GB32 I have ever seen. It is Hull #832 of 861 built, has a factory Cummins 210, bow thruster, Heat-A/C, stern gate, custom fixed bimini, 2 -10" Garmin chart plotters w/ radar, auto-pilot, inverter, vacuflush head, etc, etc.
