Does mass require one? If not can we still buy on in mass and fish in CT without any issues? I live in mass and the boat is in CT and fish Ct but they want 60.00 for out of state.. What about RI and NY...
I did go to NY web site and it only 15 for a non resident..... WOW a great deal why pay 60 in CT... If it was going to help out the fisheries and wildlife I would just pay the 60 but it's going to fatten up some politician or govt workers pocket..
MA doesn't have it's own for 2010, you need either the free fed permit or a neighboring state. They will require one in 2011.
RI requires either the state issued license ($7 for both in and out of state), or for this year only, the free fed license.
NY is a PITA. You only get LIS on the NY side if you have a resident CT permit. If you have a resident NY permit, you can fish the CT shoreline (but not if you have a non-resident NY permit).
CT is all about revenue. They won't honor non-resident out of state permits. You will have to buy a CT non-resident permit.
My head is spinning. I'm going to keep it simple and only spend my fish and boating $$$'s in RI, MA, and federal waters. CT and NY can keep their fish, and I'll keep my money.

Saqying that, I have a boat in a rack in CT and I fish LS, Block Island, the race @ fishers island and the local reefs....
So If I understand right I need to get a CT permit? Or can I get away with a RI? When I went on to NY web site they would allow to be used in CT....

If you had a resident RI permit, that would let you fish all CT waters, as well as Montauk and Fishers Island. You still wouldn't be able to fish the north coast of LI or the southern beaches. The race would be a grey zone and you would have to check with HY DEC on that.
If you had a CT resident permit, you could fish CT, and RI waters, as well as the north coast if LI and the north coast of Fishers Island, but not the race or montauk or the southern beaches. You would need a non-resident NY permit to get all areas of NY.
If you had a non-resident RI permit, you could only fish RI waters. CT and NY do not offer reciprocity to non-resident permits.
That sux, because either way you are registered and meeting the goal of the MS act, but the states want your $$$, so those are the rules.

Freakin states, they just make it harder and harder to fish... 60.00 for CT and 15 for NY is no big deal compared to fuel costs. It's just the point of the states getting your money.... Highway robbery.
One other option is to leave the boat in boston harbor and only fish Mass.
Screw CT and NY...
The only problem there is I would have to put hours, days, and years on learning the area from scratch.. And that also really blows.
I live in Springfield and the drive to Boston and to Niantic are the same driving time for me...
I really am thinking about baling on Long Island Sound and do the cape and boston area.
Is the fishing out there just as good as down in LIS?
Yeah, I live near worcester and keep my boat in point judith. This year I can get away with a fed permit (free), and next year I'll get a MA resident permit which will also cover RI.
If you want to stay close enough to fish BI, watch hill, and the beaches south of montauk (3 miles out of course), RI is a good place to berth. Or maybe westport MA would be a good locale.
