Default Considering this boat....thoughts? Terry Jason Downeast....

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1992.../United-States

Curious peoples thoughts on the following boat. The boat is tired and needs a refresh I know that. But if anyone has any input on price, T Jason boats in general, anything special to look for with such a boat other then the standard used boat questions, etc..that would be great. I have heard good things about the maker... but have not been able to find any articles online about the 25'. Looks to have a very sea worthy design...My wife and I like the down east style boats, willing to put in roughly
7-10K for a renovation on this boat etc. (assuming engine is good hoping it will not take much more then this for a refresh...some updated electroinics etc, paint hull etc etc)...No epic journeys to be sought on this boat, just want something to put in our slip, enjoy at the marina, take the family and some friends out for some cruises around, over to Jamestown and back, sunset cruz's etc...

Thoughts? Thanks all in advance for your input and advice....

Did a search and it sounds like the boat was built well. Have the boat surveyed if checks out go for it.

I looked at one a while back in ct. i think they are a modified beal design. check to see if the hull is cored. terry cores some of his hulls. you can call him, i spoke with him when i was looking at the 25 in ct.

It was built well in 1992, it still needs to be checked out.

No doubt, Terry builds a good boat. As far as the core, most time it is the boat owner that does something to ruin the integrity of the bond between the core and laminates, unknowingly of course. The boat in question looks clean and cared for. 7-10k will make her look real good.

Look for Gerg (not misspelled, its G E R G) on the board, he just bought a 35' Terry Jason, and did some work on things. you can pick his brain a bit.

Never heard of them..

I'm not sure I can tell you a lot about them other than my model though. I didn't work with the builder, I bought my boat used. Also, I think hanson also has a 28.

You can also try over on noreast.com in the boating forum. There are a LOT of DE enthusiasts over there.

They are nice boats, you will enjoy it, I have a 28. but the price is about 5k high. The boat is 18 years old, and looks like the engine is too. regardless of hours, the engine is old, have it looked at. The boat wont win any races with that engine, but it will move right along just fine, cruise about 14, and maybe hits 17-18 if you run in full whistle gear.
Have the topsides checked for moisture. my 28 has balsa core in the molded top and some windows were not bedded right causing minor water issues.
