Again, you guys question his permits, fishing skills and monetary value. I am just looking for a boat, Mods please delete this thread, it is going nowhere
that dragger was at RI state pier. It even had some permitsif I remember right. 53x 16 x 8 eastern dragger built in Me in....1945. last fished in 2006. gm 871 maybe ??? why did you need permits to buy a dragger?
x2,my in-laws own a fleet and I wonder why do people do this.
mostly because that is what they have done their whole life. everything revolves around the operation. You really can't get out of the fishing industry. The cost of quitting is sometrhing most fisherman would concider. they would rather hope things turn around and do without till it does.

found the dragger ad.I'm supposed to be relaying this to someone else too. wonder if its the same person?
I dont need permits!!! Just an effin boat!!! Getting a free eastern rigged dragger is like going backwards!!!!
Going backwardsin a eastern rig? both stern and eastern rigs have advantages. permits just come with it. I'm sure if somebody else is looking for a dragger they wouldn't have to take the permits if they don't want them. Its better to know all options IMO. there may be a better deal out there on a boat with permits than one without for all we know?
So you only want to be informed about 50+ feet boats that are stern trawlers that don't have permits. gotcha.

Boatman, Currently he is fishing a 1959 wooden trawler, going to a 1945 eastern rig is going backwards in quality. I understand the differences between eastern, western and stern rigged boats. if money is going to be spent rigging a boat up for his fishery at the moment (clamming) it needs to be a better boat than a 1959 trawler, or else what is the point?
I dont mind being informed about any boat and appreciate the leads. but telling me commercial fishing is a crappy job or all my commercial freinds are starving is a waste of both parties time. here we are with 2 pages and one lead on a 1945 eastern rigged dragger that is being towed in the picture.
so if you know of a boat worthy of $15000 in rigging let me know, otherwise..............

Since you asked for a dragger of 50 feet or more of steel ,glass or wood with the only requirement you asked for was it be running, It left alot to be offered . Now that you are adding to the requirements maybe we can finally figure out what you are looking for. You want a free boat 50 + feet that you can put $15,000 of dredging equiptment on and the boat cannot have any permits. or a 35tjason. Maybe I still don't know what yoyu are looking for since I doubt you'll find a 35tjason free.
Who said anything about free? Hell pay asking if it is worth it. Condition dictates value.
Codfisher, thank you, Actually the only place I had not thought of looking. Its been a while since I last read that Magazine, almost forgot.
Ok. that will open up alot more boats. He can find something tomorrow. There are some pretty good Novi boats that would make good clam boats too. I don't know if there are a heck of alot over 50 feet though. Most Novi boats wouldn't come with any permits either.

CME check out "Boats and Harbors" for commercial vessels. They are out of Tennesse. I should be receiving another copy some time this week. I would be happy to mail it up to you. Check out their website.

CMEBoston, do you mind me asking your friends name and where hes out of? I know a lot of the draggers out of NB and Fairhaven. tell him to check out unclehenrys.com and the other sites already listed. unclehenrys doesnt have many draggers but there are new boats listed a lot. if i were him id go with glass over steel. steel is a bitch to maintain. my buddy bought a 55' bruno a few years ago which he converted to a buy boat and this season a clammer. nice set up, he did all of the work himself. he put a 300hp JD as the aux engine in the fish hold for the pump. pretty hilarious when he cranks it up...it can shoot a 6" thick stream of water 50'.
Black rose, thanks for the leads, we are familiar with Athearn. the 55 Bruno is a little small for the amount of clams he puts up on deck and tend roll when the gear gets up there. currently he runs a 63 St. agustine and wants to stay around that size or a little bigger.
