Post Summer flounder hook petition (MA)

Are you interested in adding your name to a petition to make the fluke landing limit for hook gear equal to the draggers?

Summer flounder has reached the levels necessary in the MSA to relax the restrictions we have all been dealing with the last few years.
Ma. is getting more quota this year and much more next year, so there is no excuse anymore.

If you are interested, please reply to- Fluke Petition

You can read the petition here- http://ciifa.org/fp2010.html

The link to sign will not work for me.

Dosen't work for me on craigs list either

Could be on my end.

I want a bigger boat that's why I asked about a mooring or a slip

I know how you feel. Imagine How some of us who never checked the box for the free endorsements for lobster sea bass conch and draggeing and gillnetting feel? Most of had our chance and this is for the guys who make a living fishing, who got screwed back in '97 when they reduced our limits unfairly.

If you were born before 1979, then you had your chance to get the permit.

Being someone born after 79' It sucks not having any chance to fish for the things. I am pretty sure the endorsement isn't even transferable??? With that being said I still think it is ridiculous that you guys have such a lower trip limit. But from the draggers point of view no one who fishes hook and line are legitimate commercial fisherman so until MA steps up and makes the commercial fishing permit only available to people who make more than half of their income from fishing its gunna be a tough pitch for the hook and line crew

I appreciate your points. Yeah it is kinda f'd how the draggers can transfer their permits but the hook guys can't. If Ma would make it so only fishermen who made their living could get permits then there'd be room for a few more hook permits, absolutely

One thing at a time.......this can happen now.

No it's not. But the rec's should keep their eyes and ears open. The NMFS is going to declare the fishery restored soon, so the rec's should see an ease of their restrictions too. Plenty of fluke to go around.

born in '79. never got a fluke permit. they made it limited entry the year before i got into fishing full time. i heard that the only way it can get transfered is through the lobster license, which makes no sense.

and then and only if the permit has landings for 3 of the last 5 years......

Funny thing is, check if you like- there is no language in either the CMR or the MGL specifying any of this.

Basically those assholes in Boston just make up the rules as they see fit.

Have you seen how fat diodati has gotten? He must need a step stool to get on his BMW
