I agree this is a boating/fishing forum. People discuss issues about all sorts of subjects and most of us have at least one thing in common, we have or enjoy boating.

Should there be no threads on THT about sports teams, cars, vacation ideas, good restaurants, good/bad investments???
Again read what you want to read. If you clicked on the "SENATOR SCOTT BROWN" thread and expected tips on trolling for giant BFT, then I'm not sure what to say.

Circle jerk as much as you want on politics. Just think that the bilge is the proper place for these conversations. I come to thehulltruth for a respite from all of the Left and Right nonsense. But what will happen eventually is that the majority of the postings will be political and the good stuff will get squeezed out.

If you want to look at politics as being part of your boating thread than take a look at your boat trailer reg increase last month..I believe the both are related if you are frustrated with big brother as I am..

some people need to be chased away

If I want to engage in a heated dead end arguement, or listen to someone piss and moan I will call my ex-wife. When I come here it's to learn about boats, boating and fishing, not to wade through political spew. If people want to discuss fishing/boating legislation there should be a different heading for that. If they want to vent about how they think the world is coming to an end, the bilge is the the proper place for that.

I agree. I opened the post about Senator Scott Brown thinking it was about a new Penn reel and, after sifting through 42 replies, found nothing of the sort.

Good question. Humm, why don't we appoint a "CZAR" to study that?

The Scott Brown thread has nothing to do with this issue, I believe. That thread is obviously politics, and although some may argue it belongs in the Bilge, the subject line tells you what it is, so read it if it interests you.

For me, this issue is about boating and fishing threads that open with nothing political in mind, but then degenerate into a political rant because someone hijacks the thread. It's not like people don't have an opportunity to share their wisdom about their political agendas, the Bilge was created especially for that purpose.

Each person posting may want to ask themselves a question, what's more important- sharing my information about boating and fishing or posting an opinion that may turn somebody off, thus preventing THEM from learning more.

At the risk of making this post too long, let me give you an example that is kinda similar to this issue. A guy I know who has a wealth of knowledge about fishing and boating (as much or more so than anyone I've read on this forum since 2005) has pretty much stopped posting. Not only was he knowledgable, but he was more than willing to share it with everyone on THT- and did. He never engaged in politics, however. All it took was a couple of nasty remarks and he was done. He must have figured, why go out of my way to help out, then get dissed? A lot of solid information is now no longer available to this forum.

I'd like to see fishing and boating threads stay focussed on fishing and boating (duh)!

No one wants to hear your views on politics...take it to the bilge and talk about the only thing we all have in common - boats.

Keep voting in the Democrats and many of us will not be able to afford boating since we are considered amongst the wealthiest that need to support those that shoose not to work for a living.

The Scott Brown thread has been a very civil thread with no attacks. Is it in its proper place per the rules? No. Is it civil where it may do each and every one of us some good for a change? Yes.

Go ahead and cry, press the button, get it deleted, and have a nice freaking day. Nobody forced you to click on it and read it.

The very next time I see a hint of politics in another NE post over fees imposed by this state or our feds, I'll be sure to exercise my own ALERT privileges as well.

As Colbalt mentioned above, the Scott Brown thread has nothing to do with it.

Well, unless you count Backtothesea using an ignorant label for Dem supporters as socialists.

Ha ha - it's not possible for the usual trouble makers on THT to avoid personal attacks when someone disagrees with them - it's always just a matter of time. This is why all of this belongs in the bilge.

A democrat supporter is not in itself a socialist, a supporter of the current gang of dems in charge is.

An ignorant response would be something like you either need to be a government hack worker, in the auto union, on welfare, a member of the liberal "elite" or just plain old stupid to support the current band of gypsies.

And I didn't know I made it into the band of troublemakers club. Yeah, a forum where where you'll get 80 posts on how to rinse an engine. I'm not too concerned!

Well I hope you enjoyed the ride. Clearly you like what's been happening with your head in the sand. Like it or not it was few pages of civil conversation that you otherwise might not have been tuned into.

Go press the button and everyone else will be sure you're still able to fish and enjoy your own boat without having to take some rodent off the street corner with you because he's not able to afford a boat of his own. Matter of fact you'll be lucky to be able to use it yourself if this keeps going.

Can someone please help me name my boat? What oil should I use? How do I back up my truck to my trailer without a camera or a spotter?

Ha ha! Hey it looks like we spoke too soon about the civility of the Scott Brown thread!

Classic...

>>Here are the rules:

1. No Politics outside of the Bilge . . . only exception is non-partisan posts when dealing with legislation about boating, inlcuding fishing or trailering etc.<<
