Default Saltwater fishing license on Duvals desk

http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pb...NEWS/911200325

I thought I heard someone mention that if you have a NMFS recreational permit you would not be required to pay the fee of 10 bucks !?

The 10 dollar permit begins in 2011 so I figure by 2013 it will be 30 dollars!

Geeez the EPO's will really be out in force ambushing anglers from the concealed positions in the woods...!

Is true that you won't have to get a permit if you are an illegal alien??

$10 is rediculious. After all the increases Ma just put on its citizens? These ******* are going to make Ma richer than any could believe at the expeince of putting indue hardship on hard working people. Not only is the fee stupid, they probably are losing money with a fee like that. The paper work has to be worth 5 times that. The low fee is just the introduction and then they will jack it up appropriately. So someone gets more retirement money for sitting on their ass!

Either the state puts a license in place or the feds will. As to the cost to run the program, RI spent much effort looking at this before voting on a bill the governor ultimately vetoed and the cost per angler was something like 2 or 3 bucks (may have even been less). that's in RI, perhaps the most inefficient state government in the country. $10 should be a money maker.

Unfortunately the governor's veto in RI now means I (a RI resident) need a NY non-resident for the 2 or 3 times a year I fish off Montauk and a MA license if I ever wish to fish inside the 3 mile limit.

At the end of the day this whole licensing business is nothing more than a money maker.

Not so fast!! The NYS license has been put on hold by the courts as a bunch of towns are fighting it, and WINING the fight. As of right now, it looks the NY license is going to removed. If that occurs, the rest of the states will probably follow....

As I keep saying:

The RI veto actually hurt me if the neigboring states of MA, CT and NY actually have licenses still required next year. The RI license was going to cost me $7.......big whoop. This is what happens when states get involved. The RI Governer probably thought he was helping by vetoing this stupidity but as usual even with a massive full time staff he didn't have the big picture. What a surprise.

As much as I hate to say it, the feds should just manage the license and it's good anywhere.

This has nothing to do with the governor missing the big picture. The governor vetoed the bill as it being unconstitutional (under the RI constitution) to require a saltwater fishing license. Actually the correct move. The sad part is that the parties that came together to draft the bill forgot to check with their boss before submitting it to him.

I'll simply either fish RI waters or federal waters under the HMS permit. I will miss Montauk, but I can break down and buy a license if need be. The part that sucks is any guest of mine will also need the NY license if it does in fact go through.

So you think the Governor didn't know this was coming.....come on get a grip on reality. It's not like this was a big secret. Every meatball governor in New England (as proven by their deficits and unemployment rates) couldn't be smart enough to ALL GET TOGETHER AND WORK THIS OUT, now it' s a GoatF.

A true leader would not have kept his head down and then popped up at the last minute and vetoed in order to look like a supporter of fisherman, a smarter person whatever. A great leader would not have played that game. That is what we want from our highest state official? ....give it a rest you don't get what really happened here.

Point is because it's not worked out some of us may need to buy several licenses in adjoining states and whether later repealed or not you won't ever get your money back.

O.K. If the money taken in goes to where it is ment to go, would anyone have an issue paying 10 bucks to fish? I know it is a pipe dream but, if things worked the right way would you object?

Nothing good will come from this given that the peoples republic of massholachusetts is about as corrupt a political system as there is-not just in the states, but the world...

As long as you're not Japanese and fishing for whales.

Sad to say that the small towns are not fighting for no license, but rather their share of cut from the state license....so don't be too surprised if the license fee goes up if the towns win that one...

Yep more fees (taxes) Does this suprise anyone? Next thing you know they will be taxing the water we drink and the air we breath. Oh wait i think they are already doing that.

NYC raised it's water rate by 15% two years ago and the year before that. The Air...I'm sure it's being worked on.

That's uote wasn't from Thomas Jefferson, it was Gerald Ford.
