Default sandy hook bay marina

Looking for feedback on Sandy Hook bay Marina such as any docking issues due to strong current or wind.
Also, is the service from the Yahama guy on site reliable and timely.
Any input is welcome.
Thanks

If that's the marina where the party boats are, they have a nice breakwater, so currents shouldn't be too much of an issue. I've heard they have a waiting list. Great location!

I have read this marina is awesome with excellent shelter. Also read that if dockage is unavailabe good place to lay down is south end of bay away from channel.

Anyone ever run to Ellis Island from here? Best route (west or east run to Hudson) heading north? How long did it take?

Not intending to hijack thread but nice to know this info as it relates to this marina.

A lot of ferry boat traffic there and also the restaurant may cause parking issues. I have been in and out of the next marina down just about sideways with the current at times. I think you'll get a lot of rocking there too with the weekend boat traffic, despite the breakwater.

I'd guess 45 mins or so to Ellis Island- maybe less if you are fast....maybe a bit more running slow?

It's OK, fast current and a very large tidal swing 4-5 feet. I believe they completed renovations a few years ago. There are also some nice Marina's further up the river, Gateway Marina (Gateway is almost all Yamaha) and Twin Lights. Strong current in this area as well. Runs at 9knts sometimes. Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor is very nice. It's about a 45 - 50 min ride to Ellis Island Area from the mouth of the bay at about 20 -25kts.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm well aware of the current at Gateway and Twin Lights but I was told that within Sabdy Hook Bay Marina the current was not so strong.

Bigwater, do you have first hand knowledge of stong currents inside the breakwater at Sandy Hook Marina or just the area in general?

Certainly not as bad as the Marina's near the bridge. There is always a decent current in the area but I am sure it is managable in that Marina. I had a boat on the river in various Marina's for years and never really had a problem. I never used that Marina but since it is at the mouth of the Bay the current should not be as much a factor.
