get at least a quart of crabs and a few Tautog rigs with 1-2oz weights. You want to go where it is at least 20' minimum around structure rocky surface and bottoms, once they hit pull,,they will dive and hide ride after setting the hook. You will need a convential reel and boat pole,,if using spinning make sure it is a stiff pole with at least 30lb test,,if they dive on you the sinker will get stuck and your jammed,,thats why I use 1'lb test or a rubber band to attach the weight to the line,,that way it will simply snap off,,release and crank the Tog out..I would also recomend going on nbssportfishing.com and research it there with a guy by the name Scup,,,he is a legend when it comes to fishing these fish,,amongst other species.
Right now there is a tourney up here till the 14th,,intel on spots will be tight,,,rocky structureX10,,,nothing sandy.
and oh yeah scup rock and around that island is nice,,on the west side there is a ledge west/south side goes from 18' then drops to around 37-40' in areas,,happy fishing

I will be hitting it again this weekend. The bay has definatly slowed up. All shorts the last two trips out up to dutch Island . It was a bit tough outside of the bay to get a good anchor bite last trip so Im hoping this weekend will be nice to me.
I have been looking over my chart looking for some new rock piles. Heres hoping
Went out Thursday and hammered them.3 of us had 70 tog to 9 lbs. Went through 3 gallons of crabs. Ran out of bait but had our limit. Full of energy even the small ones and very agrresive hits even double headers.Fished near whale rock. The water was so calm you would have thought it was June. Good luck.
went out yesterday, but every good structure had about 10 or more boats around it and I didnt want to wedge in and piss anyone off. Unfortunately after my third spot tried my anchor got stuck to the point where I had to power out and bent the f*$k out of it. that was all. I got skunked and now need a new anchor.
But I was still out on the water so its all good.
we got a late start on Saturday first spot loaded with boats so we headed up to Narragansett we hit this rock pile on the way there was two other boats on it one was getting one after another the other boat was not we got 3 two shorts one about 20" I do not think it was to bad for my first time
what is the secret to keeping the crab on the hook ? they seem to fall off all the time
Will be heading out Wednesday. Hopefully have a few rock piles to ourselves. Most likely head out of the bay and try some of the spots that were crowded the weekend before last. Last weekend was a bust because of the weather and work on Sunday, but Im all fired up to get out this week. Light wind and 55 with sun. New anchors is on and the boats ready to rock and roll.
that is cool I do not know if I will make it out I am thinking of winterizing this week end (under protest) maybe I will do a party boat trip in December I do not know
Hit Whale Rock about 7:00 am yesterday and within a few minutes we were getting hits. Boated one keeper about 20" and a half dozen just under size. within an hour it stops. Like a light switch going off . We searched other rock piles but once the tide started going out, nothing. Even revisited the first spot later in the day.
Was a great day out on the water. Sun was out seas were calm along with the wind for a nice change, a few fish and no work . I kind of like being out this time of year. We even came across a seal out in front of beavertail. I have never seen one in our waters so that was cool.
I dont know how many more trips I will make out this season and Im sure the bite will disappear soon. I had to travel to get bait, so thats getting to be a pain.
I have never fished during winter months. Does anyone know what if anything bites in December/Jan around here?
Im having trouble with putting it away this season.
I will have to do a bit of research on the winter fishing.
My season didnt start until August to begin with this season because of repairs, but most weekends did stink for boating as far as weather. I trailer my boat so I can maybe get into December if I hit a good day.
We will see
Let us know how you make out,,,
I've been surfcasting off Charleston breechway,,very active till the storm went thru,,at it again this weekend,,hopefully the larger stripers will be moving thru,,if there not gone
