Default Extended Winterization

I have a 1998 Monterey 276 with a 7.4 merc and a B3. The boat will be pulled this weekend. Due to some travel next year it is possible that it may not go back in in the spring and may not go back in until 2011. (We are deciding if we will sell it and trade up for 2011 or just leave it under wraps for next season) Is there anything "special" that needs to be done for an exteneded stay on land?

Thank you - great forum - my 1st post - but have been hanging around for a while.

Properly vent the shrink wrap, cut in some louvers up high and low ,remove the cushions, leave all the hatches open.Your biggest problem will be mold-mildew on long term lay-up,then fuel and lubes

top off the tank/tanks with startron and or stabil,,run it till normal temp,,,then fog it and yes pull the plugs spray the fogging oil into the cylinders,,put plugs back,,,pull hull plug,if no plug like mine pour marine/rv anti freeze from the north/top of the boat down to drain,,then run bilge pump, drain all old antifreeze,,add new straight anti freeze,,bump for circulation
and yes vent shrink for mold,,and buy the stuff that prevents it,,,or cheap out like I do,,,dollar store 3 tins with moth balls in them to prevent the critters,,,I have a CC little different
drain i/o oil and replace w/new
if possible change oil and filter as well,,and fuel and water seperator filter,,,in the spring fire it up,,take it out for a few hours,,then change all filters, plugs and the fluids you previously replaced,,,my $0.02

batteries pull 'em and set them on a trickle charger after you top them off with distilled water if they are not sealed batteries,,do not leave them on a concrete floor,,a wooden bench will suffice

Topping off the tanks is a bad idea if you won't be using it for 18 months - gas just doesn't last that long. You will only have more to pump out and dispose of. Try and run them down to empy, then when you recomission, have them pumped out and filled.
As has been said, mold and mildew over the summer is a big problem in a sealed boat.

Moth balls in cabin AND in the bilge! Wrap up newspapers into balls and place them in the cabin....they work the nuts as a desiccant absorbing moisture. And smear vasoline on the sidewalls of the trailer tires and fuel lines. That will prevent dry rot.
