Hadnt run the boat in a while so decided to take a ride out the inlet on Monday(10/5) and boy was it the nicest day it could possibly be. Not sure Ive ever seen it so calm out and I'm still in depression that summer has passed us lol. Good to see some guys out there fishing though! Sorry for the pointless post ahah! Just very bored. Fish on!
I don't know how it was yesterday but I couldn't believe how nice it was today. Left Cedar Bonnett Island at 8am with a 10 to 15 west wind and about 50 degrees. Had the shields and gullwings up and dressed for cold weather. First day for jeans since April. Headed north through Manahawkin and Barnegat Bays then through Double Creek Channel with a slight chop and then around to the Inlet. Never saw the Inlet so flat on the way out but figured it had to do with west wind and a slack tide. Went outside north off of IBSP in 1 to 2 foot ground swells. About 30 other guys out there fishing and a few net boats.
After about an hour the wind died to nothing and the ocean went flat like a lake. The sweatshirts came off and I wished I had a pair of shorts with me. Spent about four hours outside then cruised back around the monument and through the Inlet at 40mph...flat as a baby's ass. The bays all the way back didn't even have a ripple. A lot of hits but no fish on the boat but we didn't care. It was an outstanding day out there.
Tomorrow they're calling for rain and south winds 35 to 45mph. Wouldn't want to try the Inlet under those conditions. What a difference a day makes.
Like you, I hate to see the season end but I'm staying in until the Monday before Thanksgiving and April can't come soon enough.
I was also out that day and it was definatly beautiful. My father and I were catching a load of spike weakfish and small snappers jigging metals. The first fish we cought was a nice bonita. Stripers and big blues should be here shortly
Jack, I think -- if anything -- I'll take my wife and kid for a good run. I've fished the pas few weekends... If I were going, weather permitting, I would likely hit the Garden State Reef North. And look at the bottom along a few of the reef areas there.
I just got back from IBSP. I was talking to a few guys who were fishing the inlet off the rocks and they got skunked. I was working the surf a little farther north of the inlet and I hooked up with 4 cocktail blues and a dogfish. Did any of y'all go out today. There had to have been at least 100 boats right in front of where I was fishing

Looked like there was a lot of action. I took my wife, son, and neighbor for a run up the Forked River for fuel and then headed home... nothing exciting, but everyone had a good time. Neighbor already pulled his boat out, so I think he enjoyed the outing.
I picked up some fuel... so now I'll have to go out and burn it. :D
sounds awesome. there wasn't much action on the surf. i think just got lucky with a good spot (and the fact i wade out ridiculously far). i'm sure the boat guys has better luck. my parents are talking about buying a boat this week so hopefully i'll be joining the fun out there really soon

I may have a shot at going out this Saturday? You around?
I will be. (If the weather plays ball) I don't know what for or where I'll go (yet). I'm not the greatest at Striper fishing (I don't have the right gear) I'm going to read around and see what kind of action is around. The temps are clearly changing...
We can't keep black bass (dam it)... PM me with ideas... I'm gonna go see what the good word is.
