Random Quote: Well Mr. Carpetbagger, we have something around here called a Missouri boat ride
Crapper. Just came back from walking the dog... My wife, who will normally go out in just about any weather... her line is, "We have things to cover our body with." LOL even thought it was too windy... anyway, the wind is kicking up real nice now from the ENE . The bay is actually pretty decent (if you take the wind out of the equation). Looks like this weekend is a goner. Ugh.
If next week is a crapper too... out she comes. I gotta move where I boat.

Man that sucks. Its striper season! You gotta hold out a few more weeks. My dad even caught a bass today. Thats gotta say something for how good the fishing is . My family's house in Toms River is going to be on the market soon. So, if you really want to buy a place fairly close to the bay...

That sucks. They're really slaying the bass right now. I can't do anything about it... Shoulda went to school closer to home. Its not all doom and gloom however. My parents signed the contact on a boat today.Unfortunately it was already winterized by the dealer so I'll be seeing y'all out there in the spring. I can't wait!

Went out yesterday... had to stay inside due to obscene weather -- people weren't doing all that well, except for people use Spot (hence my post on Spot)... I wasn't prepared well bait-wise -- so that likely explains why the only I think I caught was a giant crab.
Plenty of fish on the sounder, they just didn't like what I had to offer.
Today was suppose to be the best day of the weekend, things look so-so, if it calms down (doesn't look like wind will) I'll probably take the wife and kid for a fall ride. Right now looks so-so. Going to go listen to NOAA and go from there.
I was home over the weekend. I was at IBSP Friday night and caught 1 short bass on clam. There was a tournament yesterday so we fished Lavallette because there was far less people and we did fairly well. My friend nailed a 10.9 pound blue about 5 feet from the shore on fin-s and I landed a pair of bass on clam. I was using a high-low rig and actually had 2 bass on at the same time. One of which fell off as I was landing them. Unfortunately, I overslept today and did not make it out before I had to go back to school. Apparently they did extremely well in the morning at peak high tide. Some of my friends went out for an afternoon/night session at IBSP and got 9 or so bass with 3 keepers, 2 of which they kept. Before I went back to school, I walked over to the beach to throw the leftover clam in the surf. It didn't look bad at all... Nothing like Friday or Sat. I don't know much about fishing for bass on a boat, but I'd try sand eels or bunker. I saw alot of bunker on Sat and I managed to snag a sand eel using an A-47 with a sand eel tube in the Heights.

Trolled up a 28 and a 31 striper on sunday lost a couple more all in the last hour of fishing. A little rough and snotty but a good 2.5 hours of fishing with dad. Looking to get out Wed evening, Thurs am and or Sat, if the wife doesn't divorce me. The weather and seas just have not been in sync. Caught only one blue on a green eel tube, the bass hit bunker spoon x1 and stretch 25/30 x 3.

Boobs or spark plugs if it has them it will be fun and give you problems.
Flat seas today out of Barnegat, fished in t shirts for half the day. No stripers all blue fish for us from the inlet to the bathing beach from 60 ft to 16 ft.

Isn't seabass season closed? I have heard the blackfish are still lingering around the inlets. I can't confirm this however...
I'm working on getting to IBSP for sat afternoon/night into sunday so maybe I'll see some of y'all out there. The boat won't be in until April so I shall remain a landlubber until then

I'm toying with the idea of taking off Tuesday and fishing.....
Seabass can still be kept if they are caught withing 3 miles- at least that's what I understand.
What about you Pete?
I'm thinking I'm done for the season. I went on her today to pump the freshwater out of the hold and put in the antifreeze... drain the hose, etc. It was friggin' COLD. I had a good first season on her... I would rather spend the remaining weather laying her up and making the things right for the spring.

Yeah. I'm done.
Yeah, I'm done too. Been out for a week. Already have the fuel stabilized and Startroned and ran it through the motor on my last trip out, bottom acid and pressure washed, the hull waxed, the motor waxed, changed the Racor, the pumps winterized, pulled the prop and greased the shaft and the zerk fitting and all the grease fittings on the T/T are lubed. Have all the stuff to winterize the motor (engine oil, oil filter, onboard fuel filter, LU lube, fogging oil, etc.) and will do that on Monday. Will have it wrapped on 11/23. I put a zipper door in the shrink wrap so I can detail the cockpit on nice sunny winter days. By the time spring comes all I have left to do is paint the bottom, prime and repaint the trim tabs, give the hull another coat of wax and change the external anodes on the motor and the tabs.
Pete, if you're winterizing it yourself and have any questions give me a holler. We have the same setup and I've done it a few times. Jack

Thanks Jack, Looks like we pretty much have the same plan. The only differences are:
acid wash (never heard of it)
no shrink for me (Carver cover)
I totally agree with the wax before layup and the wax after. Especially with the colored hulls! I've read about the anodes on the tabs from you before, and I'm very curious about it!! Do you have pics and exactly which ones you used? I want to investigate it more.
Any other info you got would be much appreciated.
Pete
P.S.
I didn't see it on your list (and I'm certain you already know): But make sure you deal with the fresh water hose, pump, and tank -- also any water left in the raw water pump and/or livewell system... I'm so anal I'm actually thinking of sending some -50 antifreeze (non-toxic) down all the little "tubes" (like in the console floor, etc.) before I cover it up... I don't know if that is too over the top or not.
Yeah, I drained the fresh water tank and pumped anti-freeze through it. The anodes I use on the tabs are called rudder zincs. They are round, two sided with a bolt through the middle and are about an inch in diameter. I'll take a pic of one of the tabs and post it. The zincs are a bit corroded right now but you'll get the idea.
Acid wash... Give the bottom a light pressure wash to take off any big stuff and then apply muratic acid (brand name..Marykate's ON and OFF) to the bottom, the water line and any submerged portion of the engine bracket with a long handled brush. It dissolves any scum or growth and makes it come off easily when you do the thorough pressure wash. Wear protective glasses and rubber gloves when you do it...trust me and don't get it on bare metal like a galvanized trailer frame.
Yamaha recommends to drain the VST as the last thing you do on the motor. If you are not familiar with this PM me. It's easy to do but lengthy to describe.
I don't think you need to dump anti-freeze down all the lines. What little water lays in them will be Ok if it freezes. As long as it has room to expand it won't do any harm.
You think your meticulous?...forget about it...I'm friggin' nuts. But my boat, after three seasons, looks better than when I took delivery.
People will be running to our part of the state to but the two cleanest, best maintained 24's around. LOL (Nah... j/k -- I'm not selling).
I have the service manual, I think the VST layup is pretty well explained there... I think... so I may take you up on any tips.
Oh well... I'll rattle your cage if I get hung up - OH! And, yes, please give me the details on the zincs for the tabs. I haven't seen others that did it, but it sure does make sense! I would be very open to copying your design.
