Van Staal makes a really good 7' jig rod that is great for both throwing plugs and jigging - about $250. I've got 2 paired with the Fin-nor 75's and they are great bluefin combos (and I don't have to worry about a charter dropping a stella).

One thing - don't try to overfill the reel with braid, you will get nasty wind knots, which really suck when there are tuna breaking. I also manually flip over the bail rather than just cranking it shut - cuts way down on the knots as well.

Just reading this thread (yesterday really).

Thanks for the tip on SRMO...they have the rod I was thinking about getting for a few bucks cheaper than anyplace else I had seen.

The best- and I mean BEST part is: I emailed my local shop- who I really like- and they will price match. Even if they knocked some $$ off, I would have been happy.

This is most likely a one-time thing, and my $$ stays local. Local first, in everything, keep jobs/$$ in your state/region.

Thanks guys.

I have a 1 time used, mint condition spinning set-up for sale. It was bought for just this purpose but I only got to use it once...weather on the N. Shore kept my 18' boat close to shore.

It is a Penn 9500 loaded w/ 65lb Power Pro
matched on a 7'0" Trophy Series rod w/ Gimbal butt.
$200.00 takes it away. I am in Peabody, 20 mins North of Boston

I'd be willing to meet you 1/2 way if interested. Feel free to PM me if interested. I'll check my messages tonight and tomorrow AM.

Again, used once and rinsed in fresh water. Purchased @ Fisherman's Outfitter in Gloucester and came highly recomended.
