Everything is cool;but come on that baby mako. Is that thing really 54"? I don't think so and if you claim it is I call BS.
Sorry man; but keeping that baby is just dumb. Then posting the picture just stupid.

First off the fish is legal at 58" cfl and if it wasn’t it would not have been killed since it was first tailed before a measurement was taken. Second I could care less whether you disagree with it because when you have people out on the water that are paying to be there they want to bring something home. they are not at the point of trophy hunting makos and on a day such as this when you have 4 passengers and are only allowed to keep 2 BFT I’m not gonna tell them that they cant keep the fish. furthermore the fish is of legal size which means that IT CAN BE TAKEN; I sit and watch the long liners on discovery channel toss short makos over board that are stone dead and others that they sink 3 gaffs into shove a sat tag up its ass and toss it over to swim... ya right! You know how many others you don’t see? Now that is a waste and something that should be frowned upon but looking at my post questioning my integrity and saying BS to it being a legal fish is completely BS. If you don’t want to keep a legal fish in the hope that you will get him when he is bigger then good for you but after releasing more then one mako this year while fishing on my own time I decided that taking this one was fine. So if made some people unhappy….sorry, but you cant please them all.

Nice BFT
My two cents:
I'm not so sure everyone that goes on a charter wants to keep the fish. I chartered boats for 10 years and most of the time I was happy to release the smalls and only keep a moderate number of fish. I always found that the crew and capt always kept fish if I didn't say otherwise.
Nice fish but just to let you know, I would charter boats to catch fish not necessarily to take home everyfish that we hooked.

Cry all you want that fish is just a baby and you are no better then the other commercial guys. Yea, so it is a legal fish, man have some ethics. Maybe you can teach some "fares" respect for the fishery; but then again you have to have some respect for the fishery yourself.
I had a group out on the Mako Mania this year. We hooked a nice 60 inch or so fish right at the end of the day. I run a tape on a shower clip down the line so there is no argument about the small size. I roll the fish over and determined it was a female and we cut the line. We finished the day with only one Mako and even a good eater; but we all decided she would be better off swimming. About 20 minutes we were into a huge school of breaking Bluefins. We caught 15 or so until everyone was beat. We boated both our over and our under fish. The crew had a great day and next year will be back for their third year for the Mako Mania. Just as a note Mako Mania 2008 we caught 5 Makos. We let them all go even though they were all over the 66" tourny minimum. We were hunting for the "money" fish. We did keep the 5th fish and headed home after the best Mako day I have ever had. I had five guys on the boat that understand the "ethics" of fishing. Oh by the way they were all lawyers; but I am the Captain. They don't own the boat, they don't make the rules.

CB: your not the only one that fishes the tournments as i was in both mako mania and fever and released 15 sharks between the 2 days including a small mako that would have been legal but would not have made the money. it seems that you dont like that i kept the fish after the party asked to, and there is nothing i can do about it. i dont feel like listening to some people cry about killing a "NON TROPHY" Mako so ill pull the pic off for ya. have a good day
