Default got a new larson boat need some help!

Hey everyone, i just bought my first boat. Im 18 and finally got a used 1986 larson bowrider 17' with no motor it is an inboard outboard. I got this boat for $100 with a galvanized trailer in great condition. The hull is in good condition it just has some soft spots in the floor but ill just replace the floor with some new plywood. My only question is what are my options for a new motor. Price is not that big of an issue but i dont wanna spend wway too much. Also i saw it has speakers all around the boat but i didnt see a radio or anything. Does anyone have any websites with marine radio systems or anything? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Tony

Try to buy a remanufactured mercruiser engine with fuel injection from a reputable place. I find they are a good value and very dependable. You can find many people selling these on line and in the boating magazines. In Mass, I have used Doug Russel Marine, but others do not like them. I have had no trouble with them.

Call Jim at BOE Marine regarding a radio (or any other electronics you’re considering.)

You might want to try Jasper engines for a remanned engine and drive. I bought a 454 block from them and had good luck with it. Good luck with the project.

Default larson

worked on many use a 140 or 3.0 120 uses a different sterndrive cheak coupler between engine and stern drive you will need engine alignment tool so stern drive will go on and if you have sterndrive gear ratio MUST match motor size also it is cheeper to have the motor if it is used cheaked by a dealer than to just buy one these guys are ok they do alot of i/o work i keep my boat there good luck. ken
