Default Rod Guide Materials for WIre

aluminum oxide
silicon nitride
carbaloy
silicon carbide

Have I missed any?? Which material last longest when used with wire? Beyond long lasting, are there any other performance considerations?

Thanks for the help

Msilva4,
Why do you prefer the roller tops? I was under the impression that the wire can sometime get caught in the gap between the roller and the guide.
Has anyone tried the stranded stainless wire? How does it perform against the solid wire?

one of the reasons is the only harloy guides I found the tip is very low and the line almost hits the rod onless you put your 1st guide very close to the top
on the bunker spoon rod I like to space the guides as far apart as possible as this keeps the rod action very soft at the top for better action and if you put the guides closer together it changes the rod action , thats the other reason why I chose to build the current rods with the the Fuji silicon nitrate guides as they sit up a little higher then the hardloy
as far as the wire getting stuck in the rollers I do not see that being a problem I also feel the roller top will extend the life of the wire as the wire bends at a nicely around the roller instead of the very sharp angle with the standard tip , also a lot less friction I think

I'm by no means an expert rod builder only been doing them for a year I've done about 25 of them now
