Went to the south tom's canyon. about 7 mahi on the troll. 4 yft on the chunk (small but keeper size). 1 blue shark. 11 more mahi on the chunk (up to 25#). 1 probable big eye at day break. Think it was a big eye, because it hit like a train and headed almost straight down. Proceeded to spool at tiagra 30 with 150 80# topshot and 500 yd 80 power pro. That sucked, but it was a bigggggg fish. Had to lock down the drag when it got to about 30 yds of line left and it snapped at the barrel swivel. water was 77.7 degrees and wind against current. 4-6' seas and pretty snotty.

Most of the swords I've caught seem to play with the bait a little first and then run. This just ran. And it stayed on a while (30+ minutes) before it evenually finished spooling us. It was only set to about 75' deep. Also it was "only" 80lb leader. Usually we fish with 200+ leader for sword due to the bill, so I think it probably would have cut us off earlier. But hey, it's the canyons, you never know what you'll get!
