I've always really liked the looks of down east style boats, and Eastern is no exception.
My cousin owned one, I have one, and I have a couple friends that have them. No bad comments, but no boat is perfect. It is important that you understand the characteristics of the hull / engine combination, and make sure they match your preferences.
Are you having it built, or buying from someone who did ?
From what I know the folks at Eastern will help you setup your boat the way you want it.

I see that you are from NBPT. Me too. That's where I'll fish. Joppa, mouth, and down in the parker. Also a bit along plum any thoughts on the 24 for these waters?
I know a guy in Newburyport who has been running an Eastern 22 with a Honda 90 for about 7 years now on the Merrimack. You will see lots of Easterns in our area, they are built in Milton, NH. I think the 24 can serve you well.
Are you going to have one built over the winter or are you looking at that 24 demo down in RI?

I'm sure the 24 would work very well for the kind of fishing that you want to do. Just make sure you get one with a bait well, or install one after the fact. You'll be wanting the option of live bait fishing.

I have a 2003 24 ft. Eastern Lobster with a 115 HP Yamaha. Should have gone a little bigger with the motor...27 knots max speed. I needed to add about 200 lbs of lead in the stern because it is bow heavy. This helped the performance of the boat especially in a following sea. Before adding the weight it was a white knuckle ride, a crazy amount of yaw with anything bigger than a 2 ft following sea. Some people don't like the low freeboard when fishing because the boat has a lot of roll due to the narrow beam. The low freeboard is nice if you have a few lobster traps. Now for what I like about the boat: Easy to clean after pulling traps. Hard top, cabin and side curtains are very nice to have during the cold summer months in Maine. And the side curtains can be removed for the 2 weeks that it is warm here. Cabin sleeps 2 adults with no problems. Or 1 adult, 2 kids and a small tent in the back (which we have done a couple of times). Shallow draft if perfect for fishing the flats. It's a great boat for fishing, lobstering and putting around Casco Bay.
