Bert,
I was on the NWC on tuesday (1st). I saw the same action, a lot of birds, humpbacks, and bait. I got to the bank late in the evening though. Trolling and jigging was my method. the dogs are thick out there, it was the only thing attacking my jigs. I wish i had the live pogeys to try my hand at ballooning.

I've been waiting to hear good reports from NWC as well, like the ones from last season. This year it just looks like a random person or two would hook up with a large fish and thats it. i think last year there were a lot more schoolie fish from what i've read.

Well anyways dont despair theres still plenty of fishing time left even though its colder, send me a pm if you would like some company out there. so long as the weather is fine ill be out there !

Saturday was a dead as it gets on the Bank for tuna (glad I had a ground fish charter). I know of one fish that was hooked way east of the bank. Reports from spotter planes stated for the first time this season they were unable to locate any great concentration of fish in the gulf. Personally, I believe the crystal clear nights along with the brightest full moon we have had in a while, sent the fish east and deep. With the darkening moon the fish will come back and be on the chew. Never give up

Live bait is the key this year. Was out yesterday lots of weed and debris in the water. I was trolling sluggos and and xraps. No luck for me.

It was pretty dead out there. Did hear a few guys hooked up with pogies and macks.

I was at the south end of the bank monday. I've been putting a 6/0 senator in the mix because the boss thinks I have enough rods and reels. I always wondered how it would hold up to one of these fish. Well, at 6:30am I found out. The poor little 6/0 didn't stand a chance. I thought it was going to burst into flames. I was down to a quarter spool when I finished clearing the first line so I added just a bit more drag and broke the fish off. No more 6/0 in my spread!

And next year we'll need even bigger equipment as it it likely the same fish will show up having grown.

I'm sure those gears in the 6/0 are smoked. Well at least you know now. Bring it into the house and show the wifey what she did!

Ha! I laid the guilt trip on her by phone right after. I'm looking for another pair of 50 wides. Not sure I'll make it till Christmas like she wants.....

No, it was right out of the Bass line-up with 50lb mono. Might have stood a chance with braid and a second person on board....but I don't think so. I've had no problem with a 9/0 Senator on these fish but the 6 is simply the wrong tool. Amarshall, I'm still new at this- are you suggesting that 50's might be the wrong tool for next years fish?
