If you had about 5-700 yds of braid on top of your mono backing you may have had a shot. I've caught some decent fish on the senators in Cabo. I think the issue is you don't know how much drag you are putting on it when you tighten down.

I am sure it was the 50lb mono that had something to do with the fish breaking off. The reel probably didnt help but line that small is going to break a lot with 65-70+ inch tuna.

And Codfisher, plenty of littlle tuna still around. They either left or did not show for a few days but they were thick beginning of this week. Who knows what it will be like once this weather pattern changes though, weather like this at this time of year can really shake things up.

Drew,

for what its worth, I had one take a cod jig earlier this year. It was a firends rod, backing and 100yds of braid. No chance...

Their tails probably tear up that 50 mono (which is what I had as a top shot) pretty quick.

Codfisher, was that you talking to CG MR last night ? I hope not. it was nasty.
