Default Water Temperature at the Dump

Does anyone have an updated sea surface temp chart for the area of the dump. Rutgers sea temp does not seem to show it well except for two days ago. I was specifically wondering if the warm water had pushed further north over the past few days. Thinking of making a run to the dump tomorrow and an updated surface temp would be nice. Thanks in advance fellas.

Plug in your Lat/Lon and you should get something usable.
I don't know where the Dump is...

Mike, I doubt Len would be happy that you posted a current image on a public site. He puts a lot of work into his service, and it isn't free.

Just saying.

I subscribe as well and his charts are dead on. MUCH better than oceantemp or terafin, though they take some time to get used to.

re blackfinmike bad move, you are putting up charts people pay for, you think your doing someone a favor, but what you are actually doing is making allot of people very mad. myself included.

Listen boy's, If I put up the chart and didn't say where it came from, then that would be bad, What I am doing is helping two people, the op and my friend capt Len. See when people post a rutgers chart or another, then I post what www.offshoresatelliteservices.com does, it shows why it is worth us paying for this service. This poster was helped 1 time buy capt. lens chart maybe next time he won't want to play with the make believe charts (not that there not good, just not as good) and will sign up for the pay service. Now I luck like a fool, because I have to explain this to you guy's.

If you had Capt. Len's explicit permission to post that image, then you have my sincere apology. Next time, just say so.

I know he posts up images himself from time to time, but that is usually to make a specific point or veerrrry early in the season.

Hey Mike, I understand you were just trying to be a nice guy, however .. remember no good deed goes unpunished.
Does your friend Len approve you posting his charts on this site ?? if so I retract my post and I apologize.
I know Len and I doubt he would approve.
As for you SC51 go take a swim off Monomoy please.
here is a free one to try, not nearly as usefully as Lens. sstcharts.com

There are so many hall monitirs on this site. "Don't do this, Don't do that." Its like some just like to hear themselves lecture and talk.
Let people do what they want. And if the guy whos charts they are has a problem with him putting it up its up to him to say something.

I'll tell you what. If I see someone take something off of your boat and give it away, I'll just wish them a nice day.

Sheesh. If he didn't have permission it is theft of service. Go ahead and defend it if you want.

Gerg, not to fuel the fire, but I believe I paid for that chart as well as the rest for the last 5 years. Also I let capt.len know what I had done (after the fact). Charts are good till the wind blows or the tide changes, that would be like someone stealing a rod and it disappearing in there hands the next day, The chart was not taken from you or anyone.

Mike, that wasn't directed at you. I don't believe you thought you were doing anything wrong. It was some of the others that complained about hall monitors that I was responding to.

But lets agree to disagree over the utility of these charts. The chart you posted was the most current available when you put it up. I fiond them highly valuable the day before a trip, so much so I pay for them.

Regardless, I've seen at least one company pull service from the west coast because people flagrantly reposted images and generally treated them like freeware. Now those images aren't available to anyone, and the few people who were paying didn't renew because they saw no reason to. So the company just turned off coverage to the region.

There may be nothing wrong with unlimited free downloads of copyrighted music. There may be nothing wrong with ripping cd's and sharing license keys to popular sw titles, and there may be nothing wrong with the free posting of copyrighted materials that drives someones livelihood.

But then again, there may be. People will disagree over this for a long time.

Default Posting Current Charts

I have been following this thread for a little while and I would like to thank everyone that came the support and defense of my copyright. I also would like to thank Blackfin Mike for his good intentions. Mike is one of my customers and I consider him a friend also.
Gerg, you are right about persistent copyright violations forcing a company to shut down service for an area. A long time ago I posted charts for Lake Ontario and Lake Michigan. Steelhead and trout are very prone to temp breaks and the lakes are extremely thermally dynamic. The breaks produced good catchs, but the copyright violations were uncontrolable. I had marinas buying service then selling it to everyone in the marina. I gave up and pulled the plug.
Most everyone that matters knows of my service and my charts. I will continue to allow entry into the site during off season. But posting current charts on a public forum isn't fair to the people that pay for the service.
