with 2 first time tuna fisherman aboard at 16 yrs old, i ran out thursday late morning to see if i could put some meat in the box. headed out to the same place every body else is fishing and searched around for about 5 min. and ran right into the life. started at a slick with birds working it hard, saw a tuna roll and tossed him a jig handed it to one of the anglers and with 2 pulls of the rod he was in. fought the fish for 15 min. but pulled the hook. i kept the chunks going to keep them around and set the 1st line at 60' which was there for 3 sec. before screaming. handed off this one to the other angler who fought the fish with all he had, landed it then decided the open ocean was too much to handel and slept on the gunwall for 6 hrs. puking the whole time and begging to go in. next fish came 30min. later and was our over fish to be put in the box. 5 min. later i pulled a jig on another fish while the 60' line went off again but was broke off due to me forgetting to back the drag off with the avet 50 that i put out when one of the 30's was out of comission. after that we got into false albacore and skippys thick and were slamming them with jigs. ended up keeping a few for bait. the fish were nice sized at 46" and 48"
