Princeton is quiet this time of year. Most of the students have left. Not much to do there. As mentioned, the ocean is about an hour away except if you are going on the weekend, you'll be in traffic. If you are into wine, there are some winery's close by. If you head west towards the Delaware River, there is tubing at point Pleasant on the Pa side of the river.

If you like ice cream, you can check out Thomas Sweet’s on Nassau Street. Unfortunately, that’s about it for Princeton other than the campus. There is a train station there that will take you straight to NYC. As others have mentioned, you won’t be too far from the Jersey Shore.

I think six flags is close if your into coasters etc... there is also one of those drive through zoos there where camels, giraffes etc stick their heads in your car and monkees break your wipers off ,Blast. We found Princeton to be a fairly fun little town(was there during school in) Some funky resturants, nightclubs, shops. To each his own I guess.
Princeton gives tours of the campus which has some very interesting history - e.g. a few well know revolutionary wear battles occurred right on the campus.
NYC is only a hour away by train. Take the DINK from the campus over to the main RR tracks at Princeton junction and hop on in to NYC.
You can also travel a little west, cross the Delaware River into Washington's Crossing, PA - and visit where the father of our Country made that historic crossing. Then travel north into artisic New Hope, PA - a "rainbow" friendly community. A neat place to grab a beer and lunch and watch the people. Lambertville, NJ is just a walk over the bridge from there! Hope for nice weather!
Round Valley Reservoir, its about 45 minutes from Princeton in Clinton Twp. off of Rt 22.
They have picnic areas, boat ramp and a elevated viewing area, i have been there and fished a few times, its surrounded by Cushetunk Mountain, 180' deep on 2000 Acres.
The views are unbelievable.
