Random Quote: Vegetarian, Indian term for a bad fisherman
THE ROAD was on her way back to the dock after a day shark'in. We were entered in Mako Mania. We managed one Mako under the 66 inch minimum, about 60 inches and was cut free. About four miles before ore shark spot we ran across a school of tuna. When we went back to the area the tuna were still there. Our first troll through the breaking fish yeiled 3 nice Bluefin tuna. We worked the school for about 45 minutes catching fifteen or so bfins. We kept one nice fish. After thinking about it I think we should have set up our shark drift right in the middle of these hugh schools. At times the surface fish covered a couple of acres.
It is just a crime we can only have one of these fish.

No the crime is the US is constantly under quota (which could be fixed by allowing us 1 per angler up to 3 per boat), and the rest of the world is eploiting the fishery.
Its a crime that a bluefin tuna can be killed when it is only 10% of its potential size.
No, it's a shame they can be taken when they finally reach breeding size.
But seriously, it's a silly argument when they are seined up overseas and entire schools are put on ice, including 10 inch juveniles. There is a reason the us comes in under quota, and it isn't rec'ss taking sbft's.

I hit the same schools busting on bait...went 4 for 4 up 50#s,,,,took the 50......I had much bigger fish rolling next to the boat....nice way to end a horrible shark day.,,,,left them biting.
CMEBoston you are so full of $hit your eyes are brown. Most tuna get eaten by other fish and very few make it to "giant" status. To kill those fish is just stupid. The ONLY reason is because the fregg'in Japs will pay commercial a-holes lots of money to continue the rape of the oceans.
NO GIANTS
NO WHALES
NO CLUB"IN BABY SEALS
NO SWORDFISH LONGLINES
NO SHARK FINS
These would be a good start.

Im not against sport fishing for tuna But how much Damn tuna are you gonna eat yourself? you really need 2 a day? I know im sick of it after 2 a season. they got no chance with all the a@#holes killing em when they are babies. How many you think get broken off and swim around with 20ft of flourocarbon hanging out of their mouths? they sure have a good chance at being prey. you gonna give it away so it can rot in your buddys freezer and wind up low grade cat food?
I guess making a living off of a fishery is not as important you killing them before they have a chance.

I was out sunday morn also had a bluefin North of the glory hole and a couple miles short of the center and lost it right at the boat crimp failure and that was it for bft for us.
I am heading out again tomorrow. If they are still there I will report. The tuna were working huge pods of bait. They stayed in the same place from Saturday morning to late Saturday afternoon.
As for CMEBoston; I had six guys on the boat. How stupid can you be. One 48 inch fish does not go to far with six guys on board. The regs state one fish 27-47 and one fish 47-73. We were luck and kept a bigger fish. If the schools were only smaller fish; less the 47" then six guys would be lucky to get a steak or two. The NMFS has done a great job keeping Rec Anglers out of the fishery by making it very very expensive to catch and keep one 27 inch Bluefin. Not one of your arguments has any merit. Keep on killing the breeders to fill your pockets with money. Just another commerical whore taking and putting nothing back into the eco-system.
Wow, all the fish down south are small! That's a good sign. Up here we can't get away for these 65 to 70 inch fish.... And one of these goes a long way to feeding the entire boat.
Hey CB, those "commercial whores" put back all the undersized fish into the eco-system and give them all a chance to get to spawning age. Sounds like all you do is leave a hole in the water where those little bluefins were swimming around in, and then whine about the commercial guys lining their pockets? Soooo.....what's the difference between them and you lining your pockets? Oh, yeah-the fish you keep will have NEVER spawned.
I've got no problem with responsible harvest of both small and giant bft, but to place a lesser value on smaller fish is insane. Every rat and schoolie WILL grow to be a "breeder"! Hard to imagine for some people, apparently. As far as "most tuna get eaten by other fish" (CB Hawes, THT 2009), could be one of the most ignorant statements I've heard yet. Yep, I remember all those schools of 50"-60" fish just getting torn apart by those crazy schools of wild tuna killers, leaving only a few to carry on the fragile breed. But then again, that would be ok by your logic, because those fish dont count. Those breeders just fall from the sky. They must be a different type of tuna! They just cant possibly be the same fish that are stupid enough to bite one of your hooks. Because if they were, then maybe some people would see the point being made here....
grinder you are the one who is stupid. As a percentage less then one percent of the bluefin spawned make it to breeder size. It is not the American anglers that are doing the damage. Just look at our quota. Get your head out of your "toothless wonder".
STOP KILLING GIANTS for the JAPs

I am not saying your wrong but I would like to see proof of study on this topic.................they will never make it rotting in your freezer.
