I am new to fishing and want to get into it with my kids. I boat in the Great South Bay off Long Island and I am looking for a recommendation for a good all around rod and reel that will give me a good introduction to fishing, that I will not outgrow in a season, and that will not break the bank as I have three kids and everyone is going to want a setup. Also can someone recommend a good place to shop. I want good sales help advise (I'm not interested in a Walmart). I tried Augies in Babylon, but they could not give me the time of day.

J&H is the best place to go for selection, but it is not just the rods and reels you will need. Do you have any tackle?

Penn 310gti or shimano charter specials with ugly stick rods would work great for whatever you want to do. I have caught bass, Fluke and Black fish on my 310gti with a 7 foot MH uglystick and it won't break the bank. Check some online prices or like the other guys said J&H also has good deals and they are very helpful. Good Luck

J & H does have a great selection of stuff, but there pricing is VERY high, sepcially on bait.

Can't go wrong with a 7' medium ugly stick and a decent levelwind reel.

Go to Sports Authority after you know what you want. They usually have the best prices.

what you need and BS with you
if they're not too busy!
They helped me match a rod to
