Default Fresh Water Boaters...?

At the risk of angering the multitudes of briny-oriented THT'ers, I hereby announce that there are, in fact, fresh water lakes in NYS in which many of us actually run boats! In particular, I run my 1998 Glastron 185 Ski & Fish on the ultra clear waters of Keuka Lake, one of the glorious Finger Lakes in central NYS. My "mostest favoritest" quarry is the wily smallmouth bass.

OK guys, I took the plunge by intimating that there are some of us who don't run in the saline stuff, so how about intro'ing some fresh water-oriented threads?

Just don't leave me hanging out here alone...please......

I for one am glad there are the big lakes up north where people us bigger boats.

That's where I went to get mine. Never been in the salt, an 84 that looks 3 years old. (ocean years). Yet priced like the ones that have been eaten by the salt all their lives.

Nothing wrong with fresh H2O. There are a few here that do both, myself included.

Just look at the bottom of this reply

If Moosehead Lake ain't fresh, nothing is. The Mako loves it up there and so do I.

Thinking about trailering my rig to the Greenwood lake for some Walleyes and lakers. Dang right there is some fine sweet water to boat on. Nothing like targeting some walleyes to put me in the mood for fluke.

Skaneateles Lake, most of the time.* Lake Ontario at Oswego, sometimes.* Like to get up to the Cape also (I think that's salt water).**

I hear those smallmouth bass are really tasty...

But they need a lot of salt

Default NH

My home waters are the Merrimack and Nashua rivers and Lake Winnipissaukee. I have also been to Lake Champlain and visited friends in PA and took rides on a couple flood-control lakes.

Fresh-water is good clean fun!

So I am wondering do I participate in the Northeast regional group or do I wander over to the Great Lakes group… I guess I know that Lake Champlain isn’t one of the Great Lakes, (not to say it isn’t a great lake). Do I have more in common with the Great Lakes group, freshwater, short steep chop? Probably. All I know is the water temp made it above 40 this week, the docks are in, waxing the boat this weekend oh man it has been a long winter. My wife named the boat “Happy Jack” because she says it is the only time I’m happy! She should know.

Ok with that. I just came back from Kerr Lake, NC with my 5yr old son. We camped with my buddy and his daughter and had some beautiful days on the water. Had a hard time finding fish though. We managed to get the kids to catch some catfish and crappie, which for them was as good as any tuna. Up in NYS I like Lake George, and hope to get out early enough next year for the striper run up the Hudson. Greenwood lake looks great to, but on the weekend I hear its packed with waterskiers and jetskis. Maybe try it during the week sometime. I'm in orange county, anyone else close by??
