How many of these Nantucket Lightships are still floating? Is this the one that was in Nantucket harbor, looked to be converted into yacht. Could this be the same one in Wareham?
there's a nantucket lightship sitting outside my office at the wfc marina in nyc right now. been completely restored, guy charters it for events, parties, etc. how many of these things were there?
With all those strings attached, a dollar seems like a lot for an old lightship that must be restored and can't be used for aything but a museum, of which there are plenty of those in the USA, including the Ambrose in NYC.

There are three "Nantucket Lightships" remaining. Wareham MA, NY Harbor, and this one.
In total, there are 18 lightships remaining.
I spent a week on the Lightship Nantucket that Bill Golden purchased on E-bay a few years ago. This is one of three Nantucket lightships. The lightship was in Nantucket was in Nantucket harbor for race week. I was working for one of the sponsors of race week that had chartered it to hold parties and entertain on. I can tell you that getting that thing to the dock in 35 knot winds was the most scary thing I have helped do on a boat. She is a 200 plus foot single screw with no blow thruster and two center consol boats acting as tugs, crazy. Bill Golden has done a tremendous job of transforming her into a fine luxury ship. I can't imagine what he spent on her. It is very sad to see these old ship rusting away. I do not see how this lightship can be saved without some type of commercial endeavor to support it.
About 3 years ago the Lightship Nantucket was in Gloucester being converted into a charter yacht. They put something like 4 mil into her. http://capeannimages.blogspot.com/

You would think that with all those big $$ on Nantucket that some of those beautiful people would step up and take care of this vessel.
Most of those so called "beautiful people" will be happy to tell the average person that then should dontate to a cause. But when it comes to opening their purse strings, well that's another matter.
I recall a tellathon recently and the people answering the phones were all Hollywood types, Jack Black called them out. He went on air and said to all of them that they should donate until it hurts.
I'll bet they might have donated a small portion but not until it hurt.
not to sound to mean, but.. they took a piece of real working history and transformed it into something she was never meant to be.. a 4k a night brie and wine flatscreen tv, marble floored, tied to the dock, snooty party boat...
the people who walk the decks now have no idea what went on in that boat and the sacrafice the men who worked her gave.

As of now, nothing has come along.
It is really sad.
