Fish were thick in Hamburg Cove last Saturday. All the schoolies you want. Fish in the mouth of the Housatonic, up to the Devon Power Plant. Huge number of small and some big fish at the outflow of the Bridgeport Power Plant. Large live bunker there as well. Reports of large fish in 60' at 11B diamond jigging. Reports of fish at Burrying Hill beach in Westport, perhaps some in the Saugatuck, but not confirmed.
I fish the sound often but rarely the rivers for strip bass. Any suggestions on where to launch and how to get to fish. If I launch in the CT. can I navigate to Hamburg Cove. I have seen hamburg cove and it looks more like a lake to me. Any navigation issues? water depth?
You can lauch at the state ramp in Old Saybrook and go up river, or there are a few ramps along the river that are closer. No navigation issues this time of year other then high, cold water, and sometimes lots of debris in the water. Watch out for logs. Stay in the channel and you will be fine
I fished the "middle" part of the CT River twice this past week, and could only locate schoolies. Nothing of keeper size, or anything to write Mommy about.
Went out of Fairfield yesterdy afternoon and fished the Bridgeport Power Plant outflow. Lots of small fish and a few bigger fish. Tons of bunker there too. Went over to Housatonic and took a few schoolies off the Bird Sanctuary.
Just got back from Ct. River and am all schoolied out!! We got around 40 or so with biggest in upper 20s. Just outside the RR bridge in the rock piles or wood pile or whatever they call it.

I am familiar with those spots for fall fishing fro blues and stripers but have never caught anything in the spring.
What do you use? (My trailerable rig is reday to get dunked) Can you get these things in the day without bait - like on the surface with plugs or trolling? I am fighting for first place with a few guys in the Marina as the worst fisherman at the docks. I really don't like to anchor and fish off of the bottom with anyhting alive ot that used to be. Like those eels - I have heard of a tube and worm - what is that - does that work?
I will be glad to share anything I learn - but like I said - I think my boats have fish repellent
Anyway nice to see a regional group - first time on this forum

Sounds pretty good on the CT. river. I want to go tomorrow. Still not sure where to go where. Where did you catch the 40 schoolie stipers, what to use? pretty much only part I know of the rive is the CT 195 underpass. So go upstream? how far? Whe people say tube do they mean tube, like the 18" and a sandworm at the end or just a plain tube? Wish I knew more.
'sorry I didn't see your msg sooner. We got the schoolies on the Sound side of the Baldwin Bridge, just outside of the Railroad bridge, on the north side of the river. Right around the rock piles that are out there--the rocks are just below the surface and can't be seen. they will tear your lower unit off if you hit them hard.
Use any kind of jig or bucktail--we used white. Try a small Storm jig, also.

Cross the sound and come to Cold spring harbor. I went to get some bunker at four winds for a south shore trip and a gentlemen came walking in with 2 40lb+ bass caught in cold spring harbor and he said he lost one that looked even bigger. The big bass are here don't miss out.
Where is "Cross the sound and come to Cold spring harbor"? are you talking near the mouth of the CT. and across the sound. I usually fish at the race in LI sound??
