Default Q about Marina slips

Since I am a new boater I have no idea about this stuff so i figure ill ask the experts.
Are the prices for slips at marinas negotiable? Or is the price they give you, the word from god. I have a 19' Pro-line sport and some of the places im looking at want $3600. I never expected boating to be cheap but that amount of money for such a small vessel seem a lot to me.
thanks in advance

I talked mine down to $2000.00 from $2500.00 for my 21 footer. $3600.00 for a 19 footer seems really high to me..

Yeah that seemed a bit high for me too. the slip ran from may 1st to october 31st. The facility doesnt even have fuel services, the closest place for gas is three miles away. what do you think is the best way to approch them with a figure?

Most places will charge with a 25' min. Depending on the location dock fees will run you 75 per ft - 200 per ft. But with no gas dock that is high.

depends on where you are and each marina is different. I chose to not go to a marina because of high price and not getting much for it. I pay 2300.00 for the year, no in and out date. I get real securty behind locked gates, reserved parking, water and power no charge. Fuel dock is around the corner and my mechanic will go to the boat so I am not missing anything a marine has to offer.

Given the size of my boat what would be a good price to pay for a slip. boat is a 19' pro-line. I want a slip in the northshore. Towns i was interested in were lynn, beverly, and salem.
Oneforwater i would love to pay 2300, that would be a great price compared to what ive have had offered to me

The negotiting will vary by location. Most marina had waiting lists a few years back. There has been a lot of turnover at my marina this past year but all the slips were filled. I have seen a few people come in after the first of the season and they have a better shot at negoriating a price. There is also a risk that there may not be slips available at the place you want. I have a 28 footer and pay for 30 since I have a pulpit. My cost is a litttle over 4K. My cost is determined by beam and width .

$3600 for a 19' boat....I'd just trailer it. That's about what I pay for my 29 w/ Electric, Winter Haul and Storage.

If that was an option i would have done it. but i have no truck yet....Anyone interested in buying a corvette? so i can get some money for a truck
seriously though anyone have any suggestions on marinas that i should try? anyone here belong to seaport marina or lynn marina?

*on a side note you would think marinas would give a better price to the ones who want to sign up first since its easy money and those that are the straglers get the higher rates.*

My marina does that Monkey, when contract renewal comes out in Oct./Nov, they offer 10% off if paid by Dec 15th. My slip is $4500 elec/water/cable incl. for a 31' x 11'2" beam. I pay early so its 10% off that.

Hawthorne Cove is in Salem, not Beverly. The Beverly marina is Port Marine. There's also Liberty, Pope's Landing, and Danversport. All are on the Danvers River.

Right now there's a waiting list to get into Palmer's Cove Yacht Club. Once you get in there's a minimum 7-12 year wait for a slip and 12-15 year wait for yard storage. As mentioned above, if you're in for the long haul its a good deal. Currently the marina fees are $12 per foot and yard storage is $9 per foot. Membership dues are about $400-$500 per year.

Check out the slips behind the Wharf restaurant on the Pines River in Revere. I know one of the guys on here keeps his boat there.

The problem, as mentioned above, is that most marinas charge a minimum length of 24' or so.

The Beverly to Gloucester marinas are probably pretty expensive: over $100 per foot. Most of the Amesbury/Salisbury/Newburyport area marinas are in the $85-$95 per foot range.

Seaport Landing in Lynn is run by the City so the office was probably closed during the holidays. That may be a good option for you but I would check out the Pines River for sure.

Does anyone know what Liberty is getting a foot these days? Is there a minimum?

My marina actually does give a $5 per foot discount for all those that paid in full by Dec 31. Not a lot but every little bit helps!
