I'll try to get this right.(good luck right?) north of 42. is closed in federal waters for recreational cod.(not haddock ,pollack etc.) I think you can still take 2 codfish, per person,(up to a 75 lb. max) in state waters, north of 42, till Dec.1. Then it's all closed to recreational/charter fishing till april 1. I think this is right, but who knows.
You should try to figure out the comm. rules.(rolling closures ,20 day blocks off ,etc etc)
It just gets more and more rediculous.
If they complicate this anymore you will need to hire someone to interpret for you.
North of the 42 line 2 cod per person or 75 pounds max for the boat that is 2 fish less then 10 lbs per person with 4 on board. If you fish south of the 42 line you can travel through the regulated area but your rods must be stowed and rigs removed from the gear to leagaly transport your catch that is in excess of the regulated limits..
What is the deal with crossing the closed area with rods on board and fish in the box??? In other words say I wanna fish the back side of Ptown but leave from GH??
Listen here boys. regulations are regulations. Deal with it or We will pass some regulations like. Cod fishing fridays only. You can keep any size cod you want between 30" and 30 1/4" up to 2 if the weigh nore than 2 lls. One fish can bee kept if the fish weight exceeds 4.03333lbs. You can only catch cod fish standing on one leg. Right leg must be stood on during even minutes and left leg must be stood on during odd minutes. After your fishing must return to port in reverse gear and not exceed 1/2 kts. You must report the catches location in loran c and lat long, water temp, depth, wave height. wind direction for the past 48 hours and the wind speed for the follow 48 hours. Report must be filled out in triplicate with 42 minutes of landing or accompany filing with a$62 late filing fee.

The backside of Ptown is off limits as the 42 line cuts thru the Cape right at Highland Light which is in N. Truro.
We can muster up enough Codduring the winter and early spring to make it aworth the trip. 3 or 4 miles offshoreright off of the area between Nauset Light and Nauset beach in200' of water or less.
So to answer your question.......If you where to come down around the corner and fish South of the 42and put 10 fish/person in the box you would need all equipment/rods unrigged and stowed away orbelow before you crossed back North of the 42 and back to GH
so, according to federal doc linked by fireguy, the state cod regs i refered to are trumped by the federal regs.
meaning season is over nov - mar except south of 42 - outside cape (not within CCB). (non GOM RMA)
federal always supercedes state...if you have a fed permit on your boat you can't possess cod recreationally at all until april 1st...howevereven if you don't have a permit federal waters is closed to cod....but state fishing is as staed 75 pounds ect...
"is Cape Cod Bay state waters ? or is there a 3nm line circling the bay ? "
The entire Bay is State waters
Well not exactly boys.
The 3 mile limit is a drawn line which is based on three miles from land. In some cases it is further. Your chart plotter has the line described as three mile limit. Alot of cape cod bay "is not" state regulated. Stellwagon Bank is not within state waters 3 mile limit.
