biggest mistake ever, was for me not to get one of these.
This guys not selling the permit . He wants you to fish his permit. I'd love to do it , but I'm a part timer now (who isn't) I think he's lookin for someone who can fish full time.

Is this a closed entry fishery? What do permits usually sell for?

No way man. One idiot said I would be afraid to to say what I said to a commercial fisherman. Not so. He went on to say I have never caught any big fish. Once again he was talking out his A$$. You can have your position that commercial fisherman never do anything wrong and can have have mine that commercial fishing interests are the root cause of every stock in trouble.
Let's start with
Whales
bluefins
redfish (remember blackened redfish)
Striper
Red Snapper,
Winter Flounder
Summer Flounder
Just about every ground fish ling, blackish, tilefish and on and on
Sorry but you can't can't sugarcoat the destruction caused by net boats. Sure some guys make a living by hook and line; but their brethern sure have ruined many many fish stocks.
Sorry CMP you want to kill off a stock keep taking the breeding females. I say band all bluefin sales to the japs, not nets, no pens, no harpoons. Can't get them to bite then forgetaboutit. If they do then only sales to North America no export.
just my 2 cents

Hey dickweed ,the carbon footprint from your Bertram doesnt help either, just because you dont make your living on the water dont make it right to shit on hard working people that do it legally.Unless you're a prostitute ,fishing is among the oldest industries in the land still going.

hey guys,i have several commercial groundfishing friends who have fished for 30 yr.s or more and most agree that they had a great thing going for years, and made their money before the fishery crashed because of poor fisheries managment and overfishing.the fishery seems to be rebounding,{kudos to fms} and unfortunately, the commercial boats that were forced out of buisness by declining stocks, fuel prices.i can only hope that it returns to a thriving fishery that once was.

CB, The threat of Cites in 2010 for bluefin is very real, already EU nations have felt the pressure and may come up with Med. fishing restrictions at this years ICCAT meeting. But, as most US fishermen already know what they say and what they do over there are two different things. It would be naive to think, that if a cities listing does occur in 2010 our government would continue to allow Blue fin tuna fishing in US waters. The current status of this stock is not caused by US fisherman so why punish all hand gear fishermen when of all times unity has become a necessity?

OK, CB, you've proven that you have no clue as to the fishing regs that handcuff the American fisherman. You've proven that you don't care about the facts surrounding the failure of the American politicians with regard to said fisheries. In short, you've proven that you are nothing more than another blow-hard asshole who has no idea what the issues surrounding fisheries in this country mean. You choose to ignore what got us here and ASSume that doing away with commerical fisheries is a good idea. In short, you're just another dumbphukk looking for an easy scapegoat. Congrats...

Give me a break, CB. You could not catch a tuna with a harpoon if your life depended on it. It is clear from comments like this (and everything else you have said) that you are a complete moron. Go kill juvieniles that have not even had a chance to breed, then complain about people catching ones that have already had a chance to breed...that makes sense... Not to mention its 1000 times harder to catch a big one- just about anyone with a boat and a sluggo can catch a small one.

The rec fishery is important and I am not saying it should be stopped, but it is unacceptable for recs to then turn around and talk trash about the commercial fishery at the same time. People like you give rec fishermen a bad name.

Mark, your spot on there.I'll give you another example how when the Government gets involved everything goes to shit and the general public are misinformed .My wifes family are pretty big on the Boston Fish Pier, they own 3 95' western rig draggers and a processing plant on the pier.In the early 80s,the politicians were trying to HELP the fishing industry by offering low interest loans to go ahead and build boats, restrictions were lax at the time,I know because I was fisheries enforcement officer on the Coast Guard Cutter Active out of New Castle NH.Anyway as a result much of the fleet went from old eastern rig tub trawlers to Large western rig, twin net reel draggers, couple that with increasingly accurate chart plotting, communication and more importantly a new fleet out there with 30,000 per month expenses before they catch fish,Nothing good is going to come out of that.Go ahead 20years now there doing buy -outs on the boats and permits on the boats they funded. No different than how they screwed up farmers, one minute they pay them not to grow the next minute they regulate their profit to the point where its not worth being in the industry, and these are people 3-4 generations into the business,go figure
