Just my guess but maybe a portable heater on board? It was pretty cold that night and I'm guessing a boat of that vintage didn't have built-in heating/cooling.

Mel Conroy was a great guy. He was a customer at our marina for years before moving the boat up to Dorchester last year. We didn't offer year round in the water storage and he wanted to be in all year. He loved that old wooden boat. We had just hauled her out last Fall so he could make some repairs. When he was with us, he lived on her all summer and had her out for a cruise every weekend. He truly enjoyed his boat. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, he'll be missed by a lot of fellow boaters.
